Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Chemist who will be responsible for material development projects and formulation. The individual in this role will manage the material/product management system, collaborate with engineers and technicians, and support manufacturing technical staff at a global level. The Chemist will also serve as the interface with internal and external customers, managing technical relationships with raw material suppliers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Development of formulations and materials.
  • Preparation of compound samples and knowledge of laboratory techniques and processes (mixing, extrusion, and molding).
  • Analyze OEM specifications and synthesize internal Material DVP.
  • Benchmarking of competitive materials/products.
  • Serve as a leader for smaller or less complex projects or as a team member for small to moderate projects.
  • Work with chemists, lab technicians, and production personnel to implement and validate new and revised materials.
  • Analyze reports and documents detailing project processes, results, and conclusions, recommending additional actions or research.
  • Contribute to various scrap, lean, and variation reduction projects.
  • Propose cost reduction initiatives through VA/VE analysis.
  • Maintain awareness of the latest developments within the industry by meeting with peers, reading industry literature, and attending industry trade group meetings.
  • Enter new materials and revisions into the appropriate product management system.
  • Perform material technology shelving for future use by Engineering and Operations.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree, PhD preferred in Polymer Science & Engineering, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, or Metallurgical Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree plus at least 2 years of professional experience in materials science.
  • Strong chemistry, mathematical skills, and mechanical aptitude required.
  • Ability to understand advanced professional chemistry principles and practices.
  • Full professional proficiency in English; other languages will be valued.
  • Written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in database, product life cycle management systems, project management tools, and IT skills.
  • Awareness of ISO/TS 16949 standards.
  • Awareness of Intellectual Property.
  • Project management capabilities.
