1-Presentation of the Laboratory and the Junior Professor Chair Project

The Analyse, Géométrie et Modélisation (AGM) mathematics laboratory at CY Cergy Paris Université is a joint research unit (UMR CNRS 8088). The laboratory includes around fifty researchers and teachers (including 2 CNRS Research Directors and 1 CNRS Researcher), 5 postdoctoral researchers, about fifteen PhD students, and 3 administrative staff. Among the main research themes, we can highlight:

• Analysis of Partial Differential Equations (wave equations, fluid mechanics, and reaction-diffusion equations)
• Mathematical Physics (quantum systems, particle systems, quantum field theory, many-body problems)
• Dynamical Systems (reducibility, KAM theory, algebraic dynamical systems)

One of the laboratory’s strong strategic axes is the development of a research team on the theme of probabilities. In this context, the recruitment of a professor for this Junior Professor Chair will allow:

• Structuring and sustaining this emerging group, giving it visibility and a critical size to make it attractive for future recruitments, particularly at the MCF (Maître de Conférences) level,
• Increasing the volume of external funding (ANR, ERC, etc.) obtained by this group, and engaging in a process of seeking partnerships such as a partnership chair through the Fondation CY,
• Creating bridges with the IDO team at ESSEC by enriching the scientific themes of the probability team.

The successful candidate will join the AGM laboratory at CY Cergy Paris Université. They are expected to be among the leading junior specialists in probabilities, with the ability to open new fields of knowledge and unite teams around their work. They must also be able to:

• Lead and coordinate research projects (ANR, ERC, etc.),
• Recruit and supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers,
• Organize national and international scientific events at CYU (summer schools, thematic programs, conferences, workshops, etc.),
• Contribute to creating a shared scientific dynamic between the AGM laboratory and the IDO team, through the organization of joint scientific events, project submissions, or the development of chairs, etc.

Teaching Profile

The Master’s program in Mathematics includes three tracks: the Pure and Applied Mathematics track, the MAIF track (Applied Mathematics for Financial Engineering), and the MACIA track (Mathematics for Learning, Computing, and Artificial Intelligence). Additionally, CY Cergy Paris Université collaborates with CY Tech, a Grande École that combines an engineering school and a traditional university program.

The successful candidate should preferably have proven teaching experience. The following will be expected:

• Teaching at all levels within the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs, with priority given to courses involving probabilities and statistics,
• Supporting the teaching teams at the CY Tech engineering school, particularly in the MMFA (Mathematical Modeling for Finance and Insurance) and MMSD (Mathematical Modeling for Data Science) options, which involve stochastic modeling and stochastic calculus,
• Supervising research internships at the L3, M1, and M2 levels.

Operation of the Junior Professor Chair

The Junior Professor Chair:

• Has an initial duration of 3 years on a contractual position, with ANR funding of €200,000, and a reduced teaching load of 64 hours equivalent to TD (tutorials),
• Leads, after the initial period and upon obtaining the HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches), to a permanent appointment as a university professor. After permanent appointment, the annual teaching load will increase to 192 hours equivalent to TD.
