  • an Assistant professor “tenure track Monge (*)” in Strategy and Organization

Applications should be made before October 20 th , 2026

About the school

Ecole Polytechnique, commonly known as l’X, is a world-leading higher education and research institution. Under the supervision of the French Ministry of Armed Forces, École Polytechnique is a founding member of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, alongside five prestigious Grandes Écoles: ENPC, ENSAE, ENSTA, Télécom Paris, and Télécom SudParis. Highly international (40% of its students and 40% of its faculty are international), École Polytechnique combines research, teaching, and innovation at the highest scientific and technological levels. With 23 laboratories, including 22 joint research units with CNRS, its research centre advances knowledge at the forefront of interdisciplinary scientific, technological, and societal challenges.

The Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MIE) Department at Ecole Polytechnique is responsible for the design the entire curriculum in the Management Science discipline in order to prepare students for careers in business, research or the civil service. It brings together researchers and research professors from the Management Research Center (CRG) (comprising 16 researchers, 29 associate researchers, and 20 doctoral students), a component of the CNRS UMR i3, the Interdisciplinary Institute for Innovation, one of the largest European research laboratories dedicated to innovation.

The recruited faculty member will also join the Social Science and Management Department of IP Paris, which brings together scientific communities at the Institute level.

Committed to attracting top talent in teaching, research, and administration, and to welcoming ever more students into its programs of excellence, École Polytechnique is firmly dedicated to diversity, gender equality, and inclusion. In its recruitment process, the School pledges to review all applications without discrimination[1]. Ecole Polytechnique is a diverse environment institution and is committed to maintaining and enhancing this diversity. In 2025, 41% of our faculty, 55% of our PhD students, and 45% of our students are international. That same year, 42% of our new faculty hires were women, and 25% of our total faculty are women.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Management, have an excellent and well-established track record of both research and teaching, and should publish in top-tier peer-reviewed journals. International academic experience is strongly preferred. Although the research conducted in the Department is generally qualitative in nature (case studies, interviews, action research, etc.), all relevant forms of methodological expertise (e.g., quantitative, computational, and prospective methodologies, as well as FS/QCA) are welcome.

A command of both spoken and written English is required. While command of the French language is not mandatory (many classes are taught in English in our institution), a basic or working knowledge of French (or a willingness to acquire one) is nonetheless advisable.

The successful candidates will also provide evidence of strong teaching skills for a varied audience. An experience of teaching engineering students or involvement in mixed academic programs (with either a business or a scientific background) would be appreciated.

Job Overview

The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s teaching portfolio at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, through courses in the fundamentals of management as well as specialized courses, in particular those offering students an in-depth exploration of various disciplines within management sciences related to innovation, ecological transition, and entrepreneurship. Teaching at École Polytechnique in Management subjects typically takes place with smaller-size groups ranging from 15 to 45 students, in the form of ‘workshops’ combining lecture, projects and practice (depending on the program, classes are taught in French or English). Members of the department also supervise individual and group projects, as well as postgraduate dissertations. The successful candidate may be required to assume academic responsibilities (course coordination, curriculum development, etc.).

The successful candidate will conduct research at the CRG, École Polytechnique’s Management Research Center, on topics such as the energy transition (changes in consumer behavior, corporate strategy, public innovation in regulation and support for transitions, new business models, etc.), innovation (e.g., innovation management, innovation project management, strategy and innovation, digital transformation and AI, etc.), or entrepreneurship.

More details about the position can be found on École Polytechnique’s website:

(*) Tenure track Monge : Through this hiring program, Ecole polytechnique aims to recruit faculty members, holding hold a Ph.D., whose academic record and research activity suggest they are likely to be promoted to the rank of professor within a maximum of six years. The individual is hired on a fixed-term contract with the prospect of being confirmed in the position with a permanent contract at the rank of professor. This transition is decided based on a review of the individual’s record following a maximum of five years of service at Ecole polytechnique.
