The Tape BU develops, produces, and sells specialty fiber-based backing materials for the Adhesive Tapes industry, targeting applications such as paint masking, cardboard closure packaging, industrial specialties, stationary & office tapes.

The tape backings can be paper or nonwoven, flat or creped, saturating base or pre-impregnated, primer or release coated, meeting the converting process requirements of our adhesive coating customers.

Main mission / responsibilities

The Product Development Technician plans, performs, and reports experimental programs aligned with technical targets set with the technical manager responsible for New Product Development or Technical Assistance studies, following internal policies on safety, sustainability, and confidentiality.

Technical tasks include:

  • Acquire and study information and procedures necessary for experiments
  • Develop and set up new test methods when needed
  • Prepare lab samples or industrial prototypes and carry out characterizations
  • Assess relevance and pertinence of results
  • Analyze and interpret data and results

Reporting

  • Maintain detailed notes on experimental work
  • Present results with data-supported conclusions to the technical manager
  • Draft detailed, illustrated reports (e.g., PowerPoint with tables and graphs)
  • Share results with a broader audience

Organizational tasks and safety

  • Verify raw material availability and safety requirements before experiments; complete supply as needed
  • Respect planning and deadlines for experimental work and projects
  • Manage raw material storage and disposal according to procedures
  • Record working hours and project participation in management tools
  • Adhere to working hours, internal procedures, and safety practices
  • Provide training and support to trainees
  • Participate in safety and administrative activities of the site

Competencies and qualifications

  • Education: BSc in Chemistry, Polymeric Materials, or related scientific field preferred
  • Experience in R&D in Chemistry or Polymeric Materials appreciated, ideally in the paper industry (formulation, composition, manufacturing, testing)
  • Experience working in research laboratories and cross-functional teams
  • Flexibility to learn new technical subjects and adapt to organizational demands
  • Working knowledge of French; good skills in English (reading, writing, and spoken technical English preferred)
