Description du poste

The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France.
Through its innovative engineering, pioneering scientific vision and a strong commitment from its 700 staff members, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research facilities worldwide. Its particle accelerator produces intense X-ray beams that are used by thousands of scientists each year for experiments in diverse fields such as biology, medicine, environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials science, and physics.
Supported by 19 countries, the ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity.

The European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) is looking for a motivated scientist to join ID13, a state-of-the-art beamline dedicated to micro-/nano-beam scanning diffraction/scattering experiments, often combined with X-ray fluorescence analysis.
The beamline offers a variety of specific sample environments forin-situ/in-vivo/operando experiments, optionally exploiting the beam's coherence. Our current instrumental interests also include the area of sub-ms time-resolved and three-dimensional methods such as micro-/nano-diffraction tomography. The main scientific fields covered are soft matter/biology, sustainable energy and functional materials, cultural heritage.
Currently the beamline is at the verge of the conceptual design phase of amajor beamline refurbishment to be started, offering the exciting and unique opportunity to participate in a phase of substantial redesign and innovation, contributing with specific expertise, ideas and creativity.
As a scientist at ID13, you will:
- Conduct cutting-edge research exploiting ID13's unique technical possibilities, developing your own in-house research project in consultation with your supervisor.
- Support external users (both academic and industrial) in conducting experiments on the beamline.
- Drive technical developments, ensuring continuous upgrades and improvements of the beamline instrumentation.
- Collaborate with international experts, working closely with a multidisciplinary team.
- Present and publish your research findings in conferences, workshops, and peer-reviewed journals.

Educational Qualifications
- PhD in a STEM field and several years of postdoctoral experience in chemistry, physics, biology, or another closely related field.

Technical Skills
- Experience with X-ray diffraction/scattering, X-ray optics, or related experimental techniques and complementary methods like X-Ray fluorescence analysis would be desirable.
- A background in scientific programming would be an asset
- Familiarity with research infrastructures (e.g., synchrotrons) or similar facilities is a plus.
- Strong background in experimental research, preferably in the development and application of scattering/diffraction techniques.

Soft Skills
- Ambition to develop and lead research projects, from proposal to publication.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate activities with internal and external colleagues.
- Hands-on approach with a dedication to experimental work.
- Strong communication skills, with experience in presenting research findings at conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
