WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Back-End Web Applications Developer – European Commission

We are seeking an experienced Back-End Developer to join our client’s Information Systems team, supporting digital solutions in public health, food safety, and internal market domains. The role involves developing, maintaining, and optimizing core applications and systems that support health, food safety, and regulatory initiatives across Europe.

In this position, you will play a key role in creating secure, scalable, and high-performing back-end applications that support the mission of protecting human health, animal welfare, and food safety within Europe.

YOUR TASKS

• Develop back-end web applications, implementing core business logic.
• Design and optimize applications for speed and scalability.
• Develop APIs for system integration.
• Implement security and data protection measures.
• Participate in designing scalable software solutions.
• Write clean, functional back-end code and ensure code organization.
• Analyze data, processes, and code to troubleshoot and improve.
• Test and fix bugs to ensure high functionality.
• Create technical documentation for maintenance and updates.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• 7+ years in back-end development with Java (JDK8+) and JEE (7+), including XML and SOAP web services (e.g., JAX-WS).
• Strong proficiency with Oracle RDBMS.
• At least 5 years experience with Git or SVN, especially Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bamboo).
• Understanding of web development cycles, techniques, and optimization.
• Experience implementing security and data protection in high-compliance environments.
• Excellent organizational, time-management, and communication skills in multicultural settings.
