A county government office is seeking an Attorney 1 to assist in civil and criminal legal work. Responsibilities include representing clients in court, conducting legal research, and preparing legal documents. Candidates must have a Juris Doctorate and preferably one year of experience as a law clerk. Successful hires will communicate effectively and analyze legal concepts. A competitive salary range is offered depending on the office assignment.
Note: This is a continuous recruitment and will be used to generate an Open List of applicants. Qualified applicants will remain on the eligibility list for 9 months. Recruitment will be used to fill open positions in both the Public Defender's and the Prosecuting Attorney's Office as they occur. The position allocated to this class is the first and entry working level of this series and is responsible for performing civil and/or criminal legal work for the County Prosecutor or Public Defender. Work is performed under the general direction of the Department Head or Elected Official, or under the direct guidance, as needed, of a higher-level attorney. While allocated to this class, employees are expected to display an ability and willingness to assume responsibility and advance rapidly to a state of functional individual competency in the employee's assigned area. Area of work is assigned and reviewed for accuracy and completeness at the onset of employment; as experience is gained, less review and supervision will be provided. All work is performed within the departmental policy guidelines and applicable law. Positions of this class may be expected to assume the responsibilities of work of a higher class for training purposes.
Promotion from an Attorney 1 to an Attorney 2 is determined by an affirmative recommendation of the department.

PUBLIC DEFENDER'S OFFICE - ATTORNEY 1: $72,436.44 - $88,119.26/year
TOTAL COMPENSATION: $80,586 - $117,304. Total compensation is an estimate based upon base compensation, median retirement fund contributions, and current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates (including medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability, and leave). The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.
