Qualifications

Duration of contract: 1 year with possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director General for Education and of the Director ED/ED2030 and under the direct supervision of the Chief, Section of Education for Gender Equality, the incumbent will work closely with Programme Specialists and Project Officers, and liaise with UNESCO country offices and other relevant Sectors and Divisions (Division for Communications and Public Engagement, the Gender Equality Division in the Office of the Director-General and the Sector for Priority Africa and External Relations).

Specifically, the incumbent shall
  • Conceptualise, plan and support the implementation of communication and advocacy strategies on gender equality in education, and monitor and evaluate impact of strategies and activities, with the aim to increase opportunities for partnerships, resource mobilization and the expansion of good practice on gender equality in and through education
  • Produce a range of communications and advocacy materials and tools in accessible non-technical language (press releases, website texts, brochures, posters, infographics, posters and other audiovisual materials) and support their dissemination (electronic and printed), including through liaison with contractors such as videographers, photographers and other communication consultants
  • Create, manage and monitor the reach of digital content on gender equality in education (website and social media), and identify opportunities to enhance the reach and use of UNESCO’s social media content and messages
  • Conceptualize, plan and support the implementation of advocacy events, campaigns and activities on gender equality in and through education, identifying relevant partnerships and working closely with other Section programme staff, Field Offices and partners
  • Support with other Section programme staff the design, production, dissemination and management of publications on gender equality in and through education
  • Act as the main focal point of the Section for communications and publications, including responding to external and internal information requests on the Section’s work on gender equality, part icipating in relevant meetings, and preparing reports on communication results

  • Advanced university degree (equivalent to Masters) in education, social sciences, public health, communications, media or closely related field(s)
Work Experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant professional experience in the field of communications, journalism, media, or external relations, public affairs, of which preferably 1 year acquired at the international level
  • Experience in communicating on gender equality and education
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to draft clearly and concisely in English for different types of audiences and different platforms
  • Good organizational and planning skills, and an ability to prioritise and meet established deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, suggest practical solutions and follow-up effectively on management decisions
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with proven ability to maintain effective working relations within a multi-cultural environment and with partners outside of the organization
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, to manage heavy workload and to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience in advocacy or influencing
  • Ability to work in a team
Languages
  • Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English and good knowledge of another UNESCO official language
Education
  • Studies or professional training on gender equality
Work Experience
  • Experience working in the UN
Languages

Benefits and Entitlements

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.

The approximate annual starting salary for this post is USD 72,452 US $.
