The American University of Paris invites applications for a full-time position in the Department of Art History and Fine Arts at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning 1 August 2026
The candidate should be experienced with traditional and contemporary art techniques related to volume and design, and/or architecture methodologies. The candidate should be able to teach sculpture classes at all levels (beginning, intermediate and advanced), special topics classes, and capstone courses like the Junior and Senior Seminars. The candidate will have good knowledge of and the ability to teach the history of their discipline and demonstrate a deep knowledge of the materials, techniques and processes of their specialty (sculptures, objects or buildings). The candidate will have a good mastery of computer tools and digital 3D technology, and knowledge of past and current research methodology applied to their domain. Administrative experience (such as Program Coordinator or Department Chair) and interest in curricular development is desirable. An interest in supervising the university gallery and/or the student gallery space is also a plus.
Faculty at AUP must have a commitment to liberal arts education in a highly international environment and pursue international research and scholarship. We seek engaged scholars and have high expectations of teaching and scholarly research.
M.F.A., Master’s degree in Design or M. Arch (or the international equivalent) in hand. University teaching experience is required. Proven capacity in creative projects, research, and engaged interactive teaching. Familiarity with liberal arts education, learning objectives, skill development, and assessment is highly desirable. The candidate must be able to speak and write in English. French fluency is desired but not required. The capacity to work in a multi-cultural environment is a strong plus. European Union citizenship or legal right to work in France is not necessary at the time of application.
