ABOUT ASARI

The African Sustainable Agriculture Research Institute (ASARI) is a component of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). Located in Laayoune City, it is a structure dedicated to practical-based research with a vision of solving real local, regional, and African agricultural challenges using up-to-date science and technology.

Oriented towards Africa, ASARI works in connection with a wide network of universities and research centers across the continent to link real field issues with current science. The institute comprises a multidisciplinary team of agronomists, biochemists, molecular biologists, bioprocess specialists, animal scientists, etc., responding to regional challenges affecting marginal environments.

ASARI is composed of three main research programs:

• AgriBioTechnology program leverages up-to-date technologies to address Southern Moroccan and Sub-Saharan agriculture challenges. It aims to conduct relevant and cutting-edge research on plant/crop improvement, biosaline agriculture, valorization of local agricultural and marine resources, and animal nutrition and reproduction, with a positive impact on African agriculture.
• Water treatment and management program focuses on developing cost-effective desalination processes for agriculture and water treatment, management, and analysis.
• Renewable energy program aims to develop new approaches for producing clean energy to address local and regional challenges.

JOB SUMMARY

ASARI seeks a professor holding a PhD in Veterinary Sciences with experience to join our team of animal sciences. The candidate will participate in developing projects dealing with small (sheep, goat) and large animals (camels, cattle). The candidate must be comfortable with responsibilities in a competitive environment and leading scientific projects in animal sciences.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Leading and developing projects in animal sciences
• Providing basic husbandry, handling, and health surveillance of laboratory animals
• Maintaining inventory of animal supplies and providing technical assistance (restraint, injections, blood collections) in support of research studies
• Offering innovative ideas and focusing on veterinary questions to help UM6P-ASARI-Laayoune achieve milestones and assist animal keepers across southern Morocco to solve various problems, mainly related to camels and goats
• Establishing and developing infrastructure suitable for veterinary sciences research
• Assisting in departmental services
• Maintaining flexibility in responsibilities
• Writing research proposals for external funding
• Preparing reports and manuscripts for publication in refereed journals
• Maintaining field and laboratory equipment, ordering supplies, and keeping research records
• Traveling within Morocco and Africa as needed

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• PhD in Veterinary Medicine
• 3-5 years of relevant experience
• Strong communication skills
• Participation in professional activities and practice-related education
• Interest in scientific and project-based research
• Teamwork, communication, flexibility, and stress resistance
• Fluency in Arabic and English; French is a plus
• Supervisory and training skills
• Analytical skills, publication record, and experience in external funding
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and publish research
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of statistics and database management
