Description du poste

Postdoctoral Researcher Position Emission Inventories and Source Apportionment

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is an institution oriented towards applied research and innovation with a focus on Africa.

Located at the heart of the future Green City of Ben Guerir, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), a higher education institution with an international standard, is established to serve Morocco and the African continent. Its vision is honed around research and innovation at the service of education and development. This unique nascent university, with its state-of-the-art campus and infrastructure, has woven a sound academic and research network, and its recruitment process is seeking high-quality academics and professionals to boost its quality-oriented research environment in the metropolitan area of Marrakech. We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic candidate to join our team and contribute to the advancement of air quality research, particularly in the area of Emission Inventories and Source Apportionment.

Research:

The selected candidate will conduct research within the UM6P African Research Centre on Air Quality and Climate (ARC-Air). Collaborating with students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting scholars worldwide, the Centre is committed to training a new generation of African Atmospheric Scientists and faculty members. Research endeavors primarily focus on experimental and modeling aspects. A notable characteristic of the Centre’s research is the strong collaboration among all members. We invite applications for a postdoctoral research position in the area of emission inventories and source apportionment of air pollution. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers at ARC-AIR, working on innovative projects related to the development, analysis, and improvement of emission inventories and source apportionment methodologies, with a focus on advancing our understanding of regional and global air pollution sources.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and improve emission inventories for Morocco.
  2. Perform source apportionment analysis using statistical and computational techniques (e.g., receptor models, chemical transport models) to identify and quantify the contributions of various emission sources to air pollution.
  3. Collaborate with researchers in atmospheric sciences, environmental policy, and data science to integrate findings into actionable knowledge for air quality management.
  4. Publish research results in high-impact journals and present findings at international conferences.
  5. Supervise graduate students and contribute to the academic community at UM6P.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in emission inventories, air pollution source apportionment, and related analytical methods (e.g., receptor models, chemical transport models, statistical analysis).
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB) and familiarity with relevant air quality modeling tools.
  • Experience with large datasets and data processing techniques.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex research findings to diverse audiences.
  • Strong teamwork and collaborative skills.
  • Experience with regional or global emission inventories, air quality monitoring, and model validation (preferred).
