An emerging research institution is seeking a Postdoctoral researcher to advance atmospheric chemistry modeling. This role focuses on air quality evaluation in Morocco and Africa, utilizing advanced modeling tools like GEOS-Chem. The successful candidate will engage in high-impact research, contributing to policy development and intervention assessments. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse team of scholars and make significant contributions to the field of atmospheric sciences. If you're passionate about air quality and climate research, this is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of environmental science in the region.
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is an institution focused on applied research and innovation, with a special emphasis on Africa.
Located in the upcoming Green City of Benguerir, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), a higher education institution of international standards, aims to serve Morocco and the African continent. Its vision centers on research and innovation to support education and development. This emerging university boasts a state-of-the-art campus and infrastructure, establishing a robust academic and research network. Its recruitment process seeks high-quality academics and professionals to enhance its research environment in the Marrakech metropolitan area.
Research:
The selected candidate will conduct research within the UM6P African Research Centre on Air Quality and Climate. The Centre collaborates with students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting scholars worldwide, aiming to train a new generation of African Atmospheric Scientists and faculty members. The research focuses on both experimental and modeling aspects. A key feature of the Centre’s work is strong collaboration among members. The candidate will develop independent research activities on air pollution modeling.
Candidate Profile:
The Centre seeks a Postdoctoral researcher to work at the intersection of Air Quality modeling and machine learning, evaluating air pollution in Morocco and Africa through modeling tools. The project aims to model the chemical transport and composition of air over Morocco and Africa, supporting air quality research, policy development, and intervention assessments. The role involves using numerical models of atmospheric chemistry and transport (e.g., GEOS-Chem) to understand how air pollution in Morocco and Africa responds to future emission changes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will utilize ground and satellite observations of atmospheric chemical species to better quantify emissions at regional and global scales via inverse analysis. They will also address issues related to global atmospheric chemistry, air quality, and model development. Responsibilities include initiating and conducting high-quality research, publishing in leading journals, and presenting at international conferences.
