Ce rôle vous permettra de travailler sur des stratégies de titres liés à l'assurance, d'analyser des catastrophes naturelles et d'utiliser des outils comme Python et R pour automatiser l'extraction de données. Vous aurez l'occasion d'améliorer la méthodologie d'analyse ESG pour la classe d'actifs ILS. Ce stage offre une exposition à un environnement de travail international et la possibilité de prendre rapidement des responsabilités. 2. Description of the department
The structured and securitized origination team is part of the Alternative Credit department which manages more than €50Bn in assets. The ILS team, part of the structured and securitized origination team, is made of 4 investment individuals and is responsible for managing Insurance Linked Securities (ILS) strategies in various instruments (Cat Bonds, Industry Loss Warranties, Sidecars…).

3. The main responsibilities of the role

Assistance to the ILS team in monitoring natural catastrophes and analyzing the exposure of counterparties to these events.

The main tasks will be:

1. For the analysis of the cat bonds: perform quantitative and qualitative analysis on insurance linked securities (cat bonds) in the primary market and organize investment committees with ILS team, risk management and traders. Monitor secondary market activities to look for the potential investment opportunity.
2. For the pricing of the instruments: selecting a pool of similar assets, use the selected pool of assets to price the new deal.
3. For the natural catastrophes: getting characteristics of the events and losses for the (re)insurers and the market using webscraping, text mining, NLP… to extract the information, format it and import it in the front office tool called Ouranos. This could be done with R and/or Python.
4. For the monitoring of ILS instruments: getting reports (for example reset reports) using webscraping, extract the data (text mining, NLP…), perform data cleaning and formatting using various inputs. This could be done with R and/or Python.
5. Automation of metrics extraction: Analysis of catastrophe models output (with SQL). Modelling of complex reinsurance treaty (cascading, inuring) using adequate data structures (with python or R). Computation of i) expected loss breakdown by multiple dimensions and using different perspectives; ii) historical events impact estimates; iii) Risk metrics summaries with different catalogues. Outputs formatting to import them in the front office tool called Ouranos.

Depending on the intern’s appetite, assistance to the ILS team in enhancing AXA IM’s responsible investment framework. Main responsibilities on this subject would consist of improving the ESG analysis methodology for the ILS asset class by developing further the ESG-scoring and sustainability risk assessment:

1. Enhance the ESG questionnaires sent to the counterparties.
2. Improve the scope of the Sustainability Risks and the methodology applied on ILS instruments.
3. Comparing internal and external score to improve our methodology.

Education/Qualifications

1. University or Engineering/Actuarial school degree from a top institution with background in Math, Physics, Finance, Actuarial or Computer/Data Science.

Experience

1. Proven experience if dealing with complex data structures through previous internships or projects.
2. Proven quantitative analysis experience gained in an insurance, asset management or financial markets environment would be a plus.

Competencies

1. Candidate must be efficient, proactive, well organised and have high attention to detail.
2. Candidate will be asked to demonstrate some degree of autonomy to be able to respond in a timely fashion to urgent requests.
3. Excellent communications and presentation skills.
4. Team player, multi-tasking and ability to work under pressure, very thorough mind and capacity for synthesizing.
5. Fluent in English.
6. Agile in data management (R, Python, VBA).
7. Curious.
8. Rigorous.
