I am partnering with an AI Driven fast-moving startup company based in Paris, France with substantial funding, focused on using generative AI to design breakthrough materials and chemical processes that help decarbonize heavy industry. By combining cutting-edge machine learning with experimental science, they are building the tools to reinvent how the world makes energy, fertilizer, and more—cleaner, faster, and smarter.

After a significant round of funding, they are looking to expand the team with a significant hire. They are looking to bring in an AI Platform Team Lead - Right hand to the CTO!

Your Impact:

As the CTO’s right-hand, you'll be instrumental in turning strategic vision into practical results. Your role will focus on two main areas:

• Platform Development: Design, build, and maintain the Agentic Platform, enabling smooth integration of various data sources — from simulation outputs to unstructured text — to power machine learning and large language model (LLM) applications.
• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team, promoting a culture of innovation, efficiency, and ongoing growth. Your guidance will be key to turning strategic goals into scalable, real-world solutions.

Please note : The role is approximately one-third leadership and coordination, and two-thirds individual, hands-on technical work.

Your Role & Responsibilities:

• Agentic Platform Engineering: Lead the design and development of backend systems that enable intelligent interaction with diverse data sources — including simulations, patents, research papers, and internal documents.
• Technical Direction: Partner closely with the CTO to shape the technical roadmap, make key architectural decisions, and build scalable, reusable systems for agentic workflows and LLM applications.
• Team Leadership: Guide and support a growing technical team — including an LLM researcher, junior engineer, and interns — by fostering a strong feedback culture, effective processes, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Infrastructure & Tooling: Ensure high-quality backend systems, robust API design, and efficient data pipelines. Contribute to cloud infrastructure and deployment practices with a DevOps-oriented approach.
• Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with company leadership, data scientists, and subject-matter experts to ensure technical initiatives are in sync with broader strategic goals.

Your profile:

• Experience: 10+ years in software or AI, with a history of leading small teams (4+ people) and delivering complex technical products in fast-moving, often uncertain environments.
• Technical Expertise: Deep hands-on experience building reliable backend systems in production. Proficient in Python and at least one other language. Comfortable with cloud infrastructure and diagnosing live system issues.
• Architectural Thinking: Able to design systems from the ground up, make informed trade-offs, and guide tool selection — from LangChain to vector databases to retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines.
• Leadership & Team Building: Proven ability to manage engineers, structure workflows, provide clear feedback, and cultivate a strong team culture focused on sustainable delivery. You're as invested in developing people as you are in building software.

Nice to Have

• Experience working with LLMs or building agentic prototypes
• Contributions to machine learning or NLP infrastructure
• Background in scientific or research-driven environments

Your Expertise:

• Software Architecture & DevOps: Strong grasp of software design principles with the ability to make smart architectural decisions that balance immediate goals with long-term scalability. Experienced in CI/CD workflows, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and system monitoring tools.
• Backend & Cloud Engineering: Skilled in Python and at least one additional programming language (e.g., Go, Rust, Java). Proven track record in building and maintaining scalable backend systems. Deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
• Data Engineering & Integration: Expertise in developing robust data pipelines that process a wide range of data types, while maintaining high standards for data quality, lineage, and integrity. Comfortable working with both SQL and NoSQL databases and integrating multiple data sources.
• Leadership & Collaboration: Demonstrated success leading engineering teams, mentoring junior talent, and building a strong team culture. Excellent communicator, able to align technical teams with broader business goals through cross-functional collaboration.
• LLM & Agentic Systems: Practical experience working with large language models and agentic frameworks. Familiar with tools such as LangChain, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and vector databases, with a clear understanding of how to embed LLMs into real-world applications.
