Role

The aerodynamic engineer is responsible for carrying out aerodynamic assessments to develop or improve the design of Nuclear Products within the Aerodynamics Team.

Main Duties

  1. Technical work to develop and generate Aerodynamic designs, including:
  • New steam turbine blading
  • Continuous performance improvement of existing turbine blading
  • Other products (diffusers, valves, steam ejectors, etc.)
  • Introducing new design processes
  • Provide professional technical engineering services for:
    • Steam Turbines products (including Nuclear, and Service/Retrofit applications) and technology development (R&D)
    • The execution of projects or work packages for Steam Turbines or other Arabelle Solution businesses/activities
    • Projects or work packages for external customers
  • Understand and use internal procedures and processes (Engineering Process, Quality, etc.); provide feedback and undertake actions for process improvements; maintain Design- and Work Instructions; support the development of a know-how and know-why culture and colleagues' development.
  • Balance priorities and tasks according to business priorities set by management.
  • Monitor opportunities and risks.
  • As required, support collaborations with universities or research institutes and define technical content and planning for R&D projects.
  • Generate new ideas and promote the company's interests and image.
  • Behave according to Arabelle Solutions' Code of Ethics and Values.
  • Responsibilities

Design blade profiles and define radial stacking to satisfy performance and mechanical integrity criteria, using in-house tools. Improve profile performance based on blade-to-blade streamline methods and assess mechanical integrity through integrated lean methods. Interface continuously with Mechanical, Design, and Thermodynamic departments. Apply 3D-CFD methods (ANSYS-CFX, Cadence-Numeca) to assess multistage turbine performance and provide input for cycle performance prediction. Generate aerodynamic diffuser designs and CFD meshes (ICEM, AUTOGRID, ANSYS-Mesh) for complex geometries, running 3D RANS CFD to predict exhaust recovery characteristics. Ensure the technical quality of your work and develop your technical expertise. Act as a reviewer when required.

    Desired profile
    • Advanced University degree (Engineering Diploma, Masters or PhD)
    • Ideally 2 to 3 years relevant experience in an engineering office (energy, oil, aeronautics, special machines)
    • Minimum 5 years relevant experience
    • Fluent in French & English
    • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (ANSYS-CFX, FUENT, Cadence-Numeca)
    • Knowledge of Thermodynamics
    • Experience in aerodynamic design of turbomachinery blading
    • Experience in experimental design and execution
    • General Mechanical integrity knowledge

    Behavioral and/or Technical Know-how

    • General Nuclear Conventional Island Design and Product Knowledge
    • Rigor and autonomy
    • Proactive and decision-making skills
