Job description

Grundium designs and manufactures Ocus® digital pathology scanners in Tampere. Our products combine precision mechanics, optics, electronics and software and are used by healthcare and research professionals around the world.

Your role in supplier quality

We are looking for an experienced Supplier Quality Engineer to take responsibility for quality across our external supplier base. The role covers supplier qualification, audits, new part introductions, supplier changes, quality issues and supplier improvement. The work has a strong technical focus. You will assess suppliers’ manufacturing processes, quality controls and measurement methods against our drawings and specifications. Activities are prioritized based on supplier criticality, component risk and quality performance. You will work within our existing supplier quality framework while also having the opportunity to improve our processes and working practices. Grundium has few organizational layers and direct communication between functions. You will work closely with Operations and R&D, as well as directly with our suppliers, and you will be able to see how your work affects our products and daily operations.

Key responsibilities
  • Maintain and improve supplier quality requirements, processes and working practices.
  • Assess suppliers’ manufacturing processes, inspection methods, measurement results and quality controls against drawings and specifications.
  • Plan and lead supplier audits and follow findings and corrective actions through to closure.
  • Coordinate supplier quality activities for new products, new parts, first deliveries and manufacturing transfers.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance and drive improvement actions with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Lead supplier-related nonconformances and quality escalations, including containment, root cause analysis, corrective actions and effectiveness checks.
  • Coordinate supplier-related incoming quality issues with Manufacturing Quality and Operations.
  • Maintain supplier quality records in accordance with our quality management system and applicable regulatory requirements.
What you bring

You are likely to succeed in this role if you have:

  • A relevant technical degree, preferably in mechanical engineering, manufacturing or production technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, quality engineering or a related role in technical production.
  • A practical understanding of mechanical components, assemblies and manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, plastics, surface treatments or mechanical assembly.
  • The ability to read and interpret technical drawings, tolerances, material specifications and other technical documentation.
  • Experience in supplier qualification, supplier audits, nonconformance management, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • The ability to assess whether a supplier’s processes and quality controls can consistently meet technical requirements.
  • The ability to interpret inspection and measurement results, quality records and supplier performance data.
  • An understanding of quality management systems and change control processes.
  • A structured and independent way of working, together with good collaboration and communication skills.
  • Fluent spoken and written English and a willingness to travel occasionally to supplier locations, including longer international trips typically no more than once per quarter.
Additional skills we value
  • Experience with electronics, electronic components, PCB/PCBA manufacturing, cables or electromechanical assemblies.
  • Experience with coordinate measuring machines (CMM), such as measurement planning, interpreting CMM reports or CMM programming.
  • Experience in medical technology, in vitro diagnostics or another regulated industry, including experience with ISO 13485 or the EU IVDR.
  • Experience with NPI, new-part qualification, first deliveries, manufacturing transfers or supplier changes.
  • Familiarity with methods such as 8D, FMEA, FAI, PPAP, APQP, SPC or MSA.
  • Experience with contract manufacturing or low-volume, high-mix production.
What we offer
  • A responsible role covering supplier quality across our external supplier base.
  • An organization with few layers and direct cooperation across Operations, Quality, Supply Chain and R&D.
  • The opportunity to suggest improvements and put them into practice without long internal handovers.
  • The opportunity to work close to the product, production and the people making the relevant decisions.
  • The opportunity to work with a technically varied medical device combining precision mechanics, optics, electronics and software.
  • Benefits that include extended medical insurance, leisure-time accident insurance, lunch and well-being benefits, a mobile phone benefit and the opportunity to participate in our personnel fund.
