About the role Grundium Oy develops and manufactures the Ocus® series of compact, high-performance microscope slide scanners. Our products help healthcare and research professionals create accurate digital images of microscope slides quickly and reliably. We are now looking for an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join our Device Software team in Tampere. The team develops the in-house software that controls our scanners and supports the scanning process from image acquisition to image storage and transfer. Grundium is growing and developing broader digital pathology solutions that bring high-quality imaging and advanced software closer together. Reliable device software plays an important role in this development. In this role, you will develop embedded and system software for our microscope slide scanners. You will work closely with other embedded software developers, algorithm developers, and cloud and UI developers. You will also collaborate with experts in electronics, optics and mechanics. We are open to hiring at either senior or lead level. Your final role and responsibilities will depend on your experience. At senior level, you will take responsibility for demanding software development tasks and technical solutions. At lead level, you will also have a wider role in software architecture, technical decisions and common development practices. Both options are hands-on software development roles.

Your key responsibilities

  • Develop embedded and system software for next-generation digital pathology slide scanners.
  • Create technical specifications based on product requirements.
  • Develop and maintain software for image acquisition, scanning automation, image storage and transfer, testing, configuration and connectivity.
  • Investigate and solve issues across software and hardware.
  • Improve the performance, reliability and testability of our scanner software.

Qualifications

  • Strong practical experience in C, C++ and Python.
  • A proven professional track record in embedded or system software development.
  • Solid understanding of Linux operating system architecture, concurrency and real-time systems.
  • Knowledge of Linux kernel driver development for peripherals such as camera sensors.
  • You take pride in writing clean, maintainable and testable code.
  • At least five years of professional software development experience.
  • A collaborative and responsible way of working.
  • Fluency in English.

For a lead-level role, we also expect experience in software architecture, making technical decisions, improving development practices and coaching other developers.

Additional skills that would be an advantage

  • Knowledge of embedded device manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of image quality and the causes of image artifacts and distortions.
  • Experience with CUDA, cloud or web technologies.
  • Experience in healthcare, medical technology or another regulated industry.

What we offer

  • Meaningful work: Your software will be part of products used by healthcare and research professionals around the world.
  • Technical challenges and professional growth: Use and deepen your expertise by solving demanding technical challenges in a complex product environment.
  • End-to-end product development: Our R&D and manufacturing teams work closely together in Tampere, so you can see how your work becomes part of a finished device.
  • A role that fits your experience: Join us as a senior engineer or take on broader technical responsibilities based on your experience and interests.
  • Competitive salary and benefits: Our benefits include extended medical expense insurance, leisure-time accident insurance, a lunch benefit, tax-free vouchers for culture, sports, well-being and commuting, as well as a mobile phone benefit and phone subscription. We also provide high-quality tools for your work. Snacks and other office comforts help make everyday work smooth and pleasant.
