Job summary

Aiven is a global team building open-source data platforms and multi-cloud solutions. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Database Operations team to keep PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Valkey services stable and scalable at scale.

You will automate tasks, review PRs, and mentor engineers while improving backend reliability. Strong Python skills and English proficiency are required.

Qualifications

• Excellent development skills in Python.
• 5+ years with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Valkey/Redis, or similar.
• Experience with infrastructure automation and DevOps practices in production.
• Experience with backup solutions and backup strategies.
• Advanced understanding of Linux OS.
• Experience with automated testing.
• Distributed systems knowledge.
• Experience with performance improvements, bug fixes, and security vulnerability resolution.
• Fluency in English, verbal and written.

The Role:

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Database Operations team — a cross-cutting team that keeps Aiven’s database services (PostgreSQL, Valkey, and MySQL) stable, automated, and running efficiently at scale.

Our philosophy is to automate everything and to avoid repetitive manual work in everything we do. Our own backend systems are mostly implemented in Python with bits of Java, Go and C.

What You’ll Do:

• Write high-quality, maintainable code and release quality features.
• Participate in technical discussions and perform PR reviews.
