Job summary

Aiven is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Database OEM team. You will design customer-specific solutions for PostgreSQL, MySQL and Valkey and collaborate with product partners to translate requirements into scalable, automated services.

In this role you will mentor engineers, drive back-end development in Python, and help automate critical processes across high-value customers, ensuring reliability and security while balancing partner needs with internal goals.

Qualifications

• Excellent development skills in Python.
• 5+ years of experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, or Valkey/Redis.
• Experience with backup solutions and backup strategies.
• Advanced understanding of Linux OS.
• Experience with automated testing and distributed systems.
• Experience with performance improvements and security vulnerability resolution.
• Understanding of white labelling solutions and multi-tenancy challenges.
• Fluency in English, verbal and written.

The Role:

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Database OEM team. This is a highly visible, cross-cutting team focused on delivering Aiven's database services (PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Valkey) to our most strategic, high-revenue partners, ensuring their unique needs, scale, and challenges are met with world-class solutions.

In this role, you will be key to designing customer-specific solutions and driving direct and indirect enhancements across these three database services. Success requires close collaboration with internal Product teams to advocate for partner needs and a strong commitment to increasing automation and reaction speed of critical partner requests. You will be expected to balance internal engineering needs with external partner requirements, acting as a crucial interface. Given the high-stakes nature of this work, you must be an excellent communicator with great attention to detail, capable of seamlessly managing context between different high-value customers.

Our core philosophy is to automate everything and eliminate repetitive manual work. Our backend systems are primarily implemented in Python, with components in Java, Go, and C.

Must Have:

• Excellent development skills in Python
• 5+ years of experience working with one of these databases - PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Valkey/Redis, or similar
• Experience with backup solutions and backup strategies
• Advanced understanding of Linux OS
• Experience with automated testing
• Distributed systems knowledge
• Experience with performance improvements, bug fixes, and security vulnerability resolution
• Understanding of white labelling solutions and multi-tenancy challenges.
• Fluency in English, verbal and written.

Nice to Have:

• Good understanding of security (software, networking)
• Experience in cloud DBAAS production environments
