Job summary

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd in Oulu is seeking a Senior Solution Scientist to advance photonic, quantum, and microelectronic device integration. You will lead R&D, guide prototyping and pilot manufacturing, and collaborate with customers and research partners to turn ideas into validated solutions.

The role requires a doctoral degree or a master’s with strong research experience, expertise in photonics and integration technologies, and fluent English.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in photonic devices and their integration technologies.
• Experience in assembly, packaging, high-frequency electronics or quantum technologies is valued.
• Doctoral degree (or Master’s with substantial relevant work experience) in photonics, electronics, quantum tech or related field.
• Experience leading R&D projects and collaborating with customers and funding networks.
• Fluent English communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to R&D on integration technologies for novel devices, coordinating with design and manufacturing experts.
• Build customer and research-partner collaborations and support research funding applications.
• Plan and lead new research and customer projects and manage customer contracts and publicly funded R&D projects.
• Plan characterization and testing campaigns for fabricated devices and analyze results with colleagues.
• Guide prototyping and pilot manufacturing activities in the lab.
• Communicate work plans and results in meetings, reports and presentations.
• Disseminate results through papers, conferences and other publications.
• Lead R&D projects of varying scope based on experience and interests.
