Job summary

Agoda is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead large engineering teams and directly manage engineering managers and top engineers. You will provide technical input on new business ideas and collaborate with senior leadership up to the C-level to shape the technical roadmap.

You will drive cross-team initiatives, own major projects, and mentor talent to grow leaders within the organization. A passion for scalable, elegant system design is essential.

• Minimum 5 years in engineering management and 10+ years in software engineering.

In Agoda’s Engineering department, we build scalable and fault‑tolerant systems covering all major areas of our business: website, mobile apps, affiliate APIs, inventory and pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking systems, payments, and finance. We use state‑of‑the‑art languages and technologies such as React, Redux, Javascript, Kotlin, Scala, Kafka, Aerospike, and Big Data, and follow agile practices.

What you’ll need to succeed

• Experience managing large engineering teams (25+ people)
• Experience hiring and managing engineering managers
• Experience developing future engineering managers from within the company
• Experience rapidly growing a team
• Experience communicating to C‑level
• At least 5 years in engineering management and 10+ years in software engineering
• Demonstrable experience as a system owner with operational responsibility
• Ability to operate autonomously: making decisions, setting KPIs, strong ownership
• Extremely proficient in at least one programming language (React, Javascript, Kotlin, Scala, Java, C#)
• Knowledge of scale, microservices, and clean architecture
• Focus on velocity and quality with appropriate engineering metrics
• Excellent people‑management and communication skills
• Minimum B.S. in Computer Science or quantitative field

• Proficiency in a range of backend programming languages
• Experience in data engineering
• Experience managing in a data‑driven company and working with Big Data
• Key player at an Internet company that handles large numbers of users and transactions per second
• Experience on global projects serving world markets with distributed data centers
• Experience in Fintech / Financial Systems
