Job summary

u-blox is seeking an Embedded Software Design Engineer in Espoo or Tampere to work on GNSS firmware for ARM-based devices. You will contribute to the heart of its positioning technology, developing optimized embedded software and collaborating across international teams.

The role requires a strong background in embedded computing, GNSS knowledge, and proficiency in C/C++, Python, and related tooling; a willingness to travel and a hybrid work setup are offered.

Qualifications

• BSc. or MSc. in informatics, computer science, electrical engineering or applied mathematics.
• Experience in developing embedded firmware for integrated systems with unit testing mindset.
• Knowledge of GNSS technology, statistics, estimation theory and Kalman filtering.
• Programming in C/C++, Python or similar; version control with Git or SVN.
• Good communication, analytical skills, and English fluency.

Responsibilities

• Participate in end-to-end development of embedded receiver firmware.
• Create technical documentation for features and blocks.
• Implement new features per requirements and ensure test coverage.
• Assist in feature definition, verification and root-cause analysis.
• Develop workarounds and fixes for defects.

Job Description

In the position of the b Embedded Software Design Engineer b at u-blox you will be responsible for the heart of u-blox’s cutting edge positioning devices. With your practical experience in b embedded computing b and sound background b knowledge in the domain of geodesy, mathematics or physics you will be a specialist for dedicated GNSS software applications running on power- and performance-optimized ARM processors. With your expertise in the field of embedded systems as integrated in our GNSS module devices you will be continuously developing and refining embedded algorithms and strategies.

The role can be located in Espoo or Tampere, Finland.

Your Responsibilities

• Take part in the complete development process which includes design and specification, implementation, integration and verification of embedded receiver firmware
• Create technical documentation for developed functional blocks and features
• Implementation of new features according to a requirement specification and project plan, along with test coverage implementation
• Assistance in definition and verification phase of new features
• Analysis of feedback or nonconformities
• Root-cause analysis of defects
• Providing workarounds and development of bug fixes

Your Skills and Experience

• BSc. or M.Sc. Informatics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Applied Mathematics
• Experience in developing embedded firmware for integrated systems, with unit testing mindset and good engineering practice.
• Scientific and engineering skills as problem solving, software debugging, data analysis, statistics, mathematical and physical models
• Knowledge of embedded security.
• Knowledge of GNSS technology and related technologies such as statistics, estimation theory, Kalman filtering, control theory.
• Programming languages:
  • C (preferably on embedded systems)
  • C++, Python, Perl, make
  • Git, Subversion or other version control software
  • MS Visual Studio Code or similar development environment
• Flexible team player, with ability and motivation to work as part of a bigger project
• Very good communication and analytical skills
• Fluent in English
• Willingness to travel occasionally
