Job summary

Jobtailor in Helsinki is seeking a senior propulsion engineer to drive EPS architectures for GEO communication satellites. You will analyse mission requirements, define thruster layouts, assess interfaces, and develop MAIT plans in collaboration with partners.

The role requires extensive GEO propulsion experience, electrical propulsion subsystems knowledge, and strong data analysis skills to control design documentation and vendor relations.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in propulsion engineering or mechanical/mechatronics in GEO space.
• Experience with electrical propulsion subsystems.
• Experience in GEO communication satellite projects, including operations.
• Ability to analyse data and manage design documentation.

Responsibilities

• Analyse mission requirements, including propulsion operation modes during all mission phases such as orbit raising and GEO station keeping
• Perform EPS trade-off analysis and define subsystem architecture based on mission requirements
• Define and evaluate thruster layout and configuration options
• Assess thruster pointing mechanism alternatives, implementation constraints, and interfaces
• Specify EPS requirements based on analyses
• Analyse propellant budgets and allocation, including GEO propulsion-operation alternatives
• Develop tools to estimate maneuvers and fuel allocation
• Analyse mechanical, thermal, electrical, and system-level interfaces
• Contact vendors and select components
• Follow up on purchase specifications and analyse and accept vendor test results
• Design, plan, and follow up manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing (MAIT)
• Produce EPS subsystem documentation covering architecture, analysis, and components
• Develop the subsystem assembly, integration, and test plan
• Work alongside existing propulsion engineers and collaborate with partners and suppliers

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years' working within propulsion engineering or similar areas such as Mechanical / Mechatronics within the GEO space industry
• Knowledge and professional experience of electrical propulsion subsystems
• Experience in GEO communication satellite projects, including operations
• Ability to analyse data, derive conclusions, and manage design documentation
