Job summary

Smartly in Helsinki is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specialized in backend and full-stack development to drive a flagship rendering engine. You will own backend projects, design APIs, and push scalable solutions across distributed systems.

The role emphasizes high availability, performance, and collaboration with Product and Infra, with hybrid work3 days in the Helsinki office and global impact across our platform.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years of experience building robust distributed web applications.
• Backend focus with Node.js, Typescript and PostgreSQL; openness to other tech.
• DevOps experience including Kubernetes and messaging queues is a plus.
• Autonomous, proactive mindset with production problem-solving skills.
• Strong analytical skills to translate requirements into services.
• Excellent English communication and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own vertical slices of the rendering platform with end-to-end responsibility.
• Deliver infrastructure improvements and features in small increments.
• Define and own API contracts for internal and external stakeholders.
• Document services and communicate offerings to other teams.
• Lead technical design decisions with focus on availability and performance.
• Collaborate with Product and Infrastructure to meet global demand.
• Mentor teammates through code reviews and architecture guidance.
• Drive projects forward independently and clear roadblocks quickly.
