The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to Q-GEN, a Business Finland-funded project developing quantum and quantum-inspired approaches for bioinformatics. With rapidly growing omics datasets challenging conventional computational methods, the project explores new solutions for high-dimensional optimization and structured learning.
The researcher will identify bioinformatics problems suitable for quantum and hybrid computing, develop algorithms with quantum physicists at Aalto University.
The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to Q-GEN (Quantum Computing Applications for Future Genomes and Biomaterials), a Business Finland-funded project developing quantum and quantum-inspired approaches for bioinformatics.
With rapidly growing omics datasets challenging conventional computational methods, the project explores new solutions for high-dimensional optimization and structured learning. The researcher will identify bioinformatics problems suitable for quantum and hybrid computing, develop algorithms in collaboration with quantum physicists at Aalto University, and evaluate them in simulated and real quantum-computing environments.
The position is part of the Plant Genetics and Genomics team at the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke). Research will focus on genomic and multi-omics analyses in plants, including applications such as gene-network inference and multi-omics modelling.
The postdoctoral researcher will be supervised by Dr Tuomas Hämälä and Dr Daniel Fischer at Luke and collaborate closely with Professor Ilkka Tittonen’s group at Aalto University. The position is based in Jokioinen or Helsinki and includes opportunities for international research visits.
