Job summary

The Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) seeks a postdoc to develop and apply quantum computing approaches for genomic selection in plant and animal breeding. You will work in the Genomics and Breeding group at Luke, collaborating with quantum physicists at Aalto University and using simulated and real quantum environments.

We expect a recent PhD in a relevant field, strong quantitative genetics knowledge, and experience with genomic selection, HPC, and programming (R, Fortran, C).

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in a relevant field, typically within 5 years of the start of the position.
• Strong understanding of quantitative genetics in breeding.
• Experience applying genomic selection for large datasets.
• Programming skills in R and in a compiled language such as Fortran and C.
• Experience with Unix-based high-performance computing environments.
• Record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Excellent communication and the ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply cutting-edge quantum and quantum-inspired methods for genomic selection in breeding.
• Collaborate with quantum physicists at Aalto University and Luke Genomics and Breeding group.
• Work with simulated and real quantum-computing environments and contribute to project Q-GEN aims.
