This role exists to advance microelectronics research by integrating two-dimensional materials into complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor platforms. Positioned at the intersection of applied research and industrial development, the function bridges academic scientific concepts with practical semiconductor engineering. Researchers in this capacity execute design, fabrication, and process integration tasks within cleanroom facilities. By prototyping advanced nanocomponents, professionals help transition emerging physical phenomena into functional solid-state devices suitable for specialized sensing, analog computing, and 3D integration applications across multidisciplinary project teams.
While primarily focused on semiconductor sensors and nanocomponents, this role supports the broader quantum ecosystem through foundational materials development and nanofabrication expertise. Low-dimensional materials and advanced silicon integration techniques provide critical technical capabilities for solid-state quantum hardware, specialized readout electronics, and cryogenic control devices. By optimizing fabrication methodologies for novel nanostructures within shared research infrastructure, this engineering function contributes directly to the scalable hardware manufacturing processes and enabling microelectronics required for next-generation quantum technologies.
