Arctic Instruments in Espoo, Finland seeks a Microfabrication Engineer to join the cleanroom team. You will contribute to wafer-level fabrication of superconducting circuits using 200 mm wafers, developing and improving processes, and planning fabrication runs for production and R&D.
The role requires a Master’s or PhD in a related field, at least two years in a cleanroom, and experience with sputtering, etching, lithography, and wet processing; English fluency is essential.
Arctic Instruments is a deep tech spin-off from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland with a global customer base. We make quantum-limited parametric amplifiers, a superconducting technology that addresses one of the biggest challenges in quantum computing: high-fidelity qubit readout. We are looking to further develop this cutting-edge technology and distribute it among quantum computer builders and researchers to enable them in the race towards quantum utility.
As a Microfabrication Engineer, you will work in wafer-level fabrication of our superconducting circuits as part of our cleanroom fabrication team. You will work with semiconductor processing equipment in a cleanroom facility in Espoo, Finland, developing our processes, improving processes of record, and planning, overseeing and executing fabrication runs for both production and development purposes.
To realize our superconducting circuits, we use 200 mm wafers and combine semiconductor thin film processing techniques such as reactive ion etching, sputtering, and chemical vapor deposition in the context of superconducting materials and circuits. We produce multilayered devices with thousands of active elements and high yield, giving form to the chips at the heart of our state-of-the-art travelling-wave parametric amplifiers. As part of our cleanroom fabrication team, you’ll get to shape one of the most critical parts of our product. We value wafer-level processing expertise highly and are looking for someone eager and able to develop into a cleanroom guru. Previous experience with superconducting circuits is not mandatory for this position.
You may have gathered this experience by working in high-volume wafer-level manufacturing, process integration, and/or manufacturing of MEMS/CMOS/photonic devices, for example.
We have significant flexibility in accommodating different levels of seniority in this role, so please don’t take the above too literally. Be in touch with us even if you think you are too senior for this position, or if you don’t quite tick all the boxes!
Please apply by July 31st, 2026 at the latest. Send us your contact details, CV, and a cover letter to recruitment@arcticinst.io. We review applications on a rolling basis and are ready to move quickly when we find the right person.
Security clearance: A successful candidate will be subject to security clearance vetting by the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (in accordance with the Finnish Act on Security Clearances 726/2014). The process requires the applicant’s consent. More information: https://supo.fi/en/security-clearances.
As a Senior Design Engineer, you work close to the heart of our product. That is, you design, model and invent superconducting circuits at or close-to the chip-level.
Our success depends on our people. If you have strong reasons to believe that we need you, contact us via recruitment@arcticinst.io and convince us.
