Job summary

Vaasan kaupunki invites applications for a substitute primary school teacher at Länsimetsän koulu in Vaasa. The position runs from 1 September 2026 to 5 June 2027, with a focus on Finnish general education and Swedish immersion for grades 1–6.

The substitute will teach Grade 2 and provide 2 hours per week of music for Grade 3, planning and delivering curriculum in accordance with the Finnish education system.

Job description

We are seeking a substitute primary school teacher for Länsimetsän koulu from 1 September 2026 to 5 June 2027. Länsimetsän koulu is located in a nature-friendly area of Vaasa’s Gerby. In addition to Finnish-language general education, the school provides early full-language immersion instruction in Swedish for grades 1–6. The position requires eligibility under Decree 986/1998; if qualified candidates are not available, the role may be filled with a candidate lacking eligibility. Strong written and verbal Finnish skills are required. The substitute will teach Grade 2 in general education and, additionally, provide 2 hours per week of music for Grade 3. The teacher plans and implements instruction in accordance with the curriculum. Other duties include developing education, assessment, cooperation with families, informing guardians about class matters, and participating in teacher meetings, working groups, and team collaboration.
