Aalto University’s Department of Applied Physics is seeking a Doctoral Researcher (PhD student) in 2D quantum devices and condensed matter physics. You will study gate‑tunable van der Waals materials using scanning tunneling microscopy to investigate correlated electron systems, topological phases and superconductivity.

You will join a dynamic Atomic Scale Physics group, work in cleanroom facilities, low‑temperature STM, and collaborate with theorists.

Competenze

• Master's degree in condensed matter physics or closely related field.
• Strong interest in experimental condensed matter physics.
• Good command of English; Finnish not required.

Mansioni

• Study emergent electronic phenomena in gate-tunable van der Waals materials using STM.
• Fabricate quantum devices in cleanroom facilities including lithography and transfer of 2D materials.
• Run low-temperature STM experiments on these devices.
• Collaborate with leading theoretical physicists.
• Analyze measured data and write scientific articles.
