Job summary

Griffdon Engineering in Helsinki is seeking a Junior Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team on large-scale international electrical projects. Recent graduates or early-career surveyors will gain hands-on experience from procurement through final account and work with experienced managers.

You will develop skills in cost planning, procurement, contract administration and cost reporting while receiving mentorship and clear progression to more senior roles within a growing company.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Commercial Management or related discipline.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
  • Fluent English (written and spoken).
  • Previous placement, internship or graduate experience in construction or engineering.
  • Experience within electrical, mechanical or building services projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC, FIDIC or similar forms of contract.
  • Experience using commercial software and cost management systems.
  • An interest in data centre construction and large‑scale infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing project budgets, cost plans and forecasts.
  • Monitor project costs and identify variances against budget.
  • Support the preparation of monthly cost reports and commercial reviews.
  • Track and manage project variations and change orders.
  • Assist in the preparation of final accounts.
  • Support procurement activities for labour, materials and subcontract packages.
  • Assist with obtaining and analysing quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare comparison schedules and commercial assessments.
  • Support the administration and management of subcontract agreements.
  • Produce regular commercial reports for project and senior management teams.
  • Maintain accurate cost tracking systems and project records.
  • Assist with cashflow forecasting and earned value reporting.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Procurement, Finance and Operations teams.
  • Attend commercial and project review meetings.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career Quantity Surveyor looking to gain valuable experience on large-scale international projects while developing their commercial and contractual knowledge within a supportive and progressive environment.

The Opportunity

Working alongside experienced Commercial Managers and Quantity Surveyors, you will support the financial and contractual management of major electrical projects from procurement through to final account.

You will gain hands‑on experience in:

  • Cost planning and budgeting

  • Monthly valuations and cost reporting

Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Cost Management
  • Assist with preparing project budgets, cost plans and forecasts.
