Aiven is seeking a Fullstack Software Engineer to join the Kafka Ecosystem team. You'll build features end-to-end—from Python back end to React UI—for managing Apache Kafka services across clouds, including Karapace and connectors.

You’ll focus on Python while collaborating on API design, async backend, and the React/TypeScript views. We value distributed systems experience, strong coding discipline, and an openness to AI-assisted development. Helsinki hybrid.

Qualifications

• Strong Python skills with async/await, type annotations, and tests.
• Ability to contribute to a React/TypeScript codebase from backend to UI.
• Understanding of consistency, replication, and failure modes in distributed systems.
• Familiarity with schema evolution and formats such as Avro, JSON Schema, or Protobuf.
• Experience using AI coding tools to accelerate development.

Responsabilités

• Extend and maintain Karapace: schema compatibility, REST Proxy features, OpenAPI coverage.
• Keep the connector ecosystem healthy: upgrades and releases of Debezium, JDBC, S3, BigQuery, OpenSearch.
• Participate in design and code reviews, write well-tested code, and shape technical direction.
• Ship code via CI/CD (Buildkite, GitHub Actions) and monitor production issues.
• Own features end-to-end: API design, async Python backend, and React/TypeScript UI.
• Collaborate in a small team and contribute to roadmap planning.
• Use AI coding tools daily to speed up development.
