Job description

Software & Data Platform Leadership | Grid Sensing & Analytics

Lead the organization. Build future capabilities. Drive software delivery for the intelligent grid.

Safegrid's Intelligent Grid System consists of two main components: field-deployed IoT sensor devices and a cloud platform. This role focuses on leading the software development organization that builds the cloud stack, turning medium-voltage field measurements into grid-monitoring, fault-detection, and analytics insight for utility customers.

We are looking for an experienced software leader to take full accountability for our Software Development organization across Data Engineering, Data Science, Backend Development, UI/UX, and Systems Engineering. Partnering closely with the Principal SW Product Engineer, you will build and run a highly capable organization, ambitious plans, and reliable execution.

What you will do
  • Lead, grow, and develop a multidisciplinary software organization, taking full responsibility for workforce planning, recruitment, employee wellbeing, and team structure.
  • Turn product and business priorities into realistic quarterly plans, resourcing, and delivery commitments.
  • Own the Software Development budget, capacity planning, and resource allocation across SW development.
  • Drive an organization-wide AI capability roadmap, embedding AI/ML product capabilities and AI-assisted development tools across teams.
  • Ensure the organization has the engineering practices to build secure, scalable, and reliable cloud services that meet industrial cybersecurity and regulatory standards
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration and delivery across geographically distributed teams in Finland and the US.
What we are looking for
  • Several years of progressive experience in software development, with substantial experience leading teams including managers and senior specialists.
  • Demonstrated experience in software delivery governance, capacity planning, dependency management, and budget ownership.
  • Technical depth and insight to partner effectively with architectural leaders, understand technical risks, and translate those into resourcing and delivery decisions.
  • Strong understanding of the strategic impact of AI on software development, with a track record of driving AI adoption across an engineering organization.
  • Working knowledge of secure software development and product cybersecurity for cloud services.
  • Experience leading geographically distributed teams and the ability to create clarity in complex environments.
  • You are just as comfortable navigating the stakeholders of a global corporation as you are rolling up your sleeves to drive fast-paced action in a scale-up.
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant technical field, and the ability to work effectively in English as the daily working language.
Useful experience

Software for energy, electrical grids, industrial IoT, or critical infrastructure. Familiarity with utility integration standards (IEC 61850, DNP3, SCADA/ADMS). Experience with scalable sensor-to-cloud architectures, near-real-time applications, and scaling a growing product organization following an acquisition. We do not expect candidates to already know all of these areas. Strong leadership fundamentals, a drive for execution, and the enthusiasm to build high-performing, psychologically safe teams are more important than experience with particular technologies.

Location and working model

The position is based in Finland with a flexible hybrid working model. Regular presence at Turku and/or Espoo offices is expected (on average two office days per week, regularly visiting both locations) to support leadership, team collaboration, and alignment with hardware development. Regular collaboration across international time zones is required, along with occasional travel to G&W Electric locations (including the US), partners, and customers.
