Job summary

UPM in Finland seeks a senior data engineering leader to shape and drive data platforms across the organization, including Snowflake and dbt implementations. The role combines hands-on work with strategic guidance, working across teams to deliver scalable data solutions.

Located in Helsinki or Tampere, Finland, you will report to the Director IT Data and Digital Enablement and mentor data engineers while aligning data governance with business needs. Fluent English is required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in data development and operations.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake, dbt and Azure.
• Proven ability to identify business needs and deliver value.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Strong networking and collaboration abilities.
• Consultative mindset; good listener and able to challenge when needed.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Lead and shape data engineering practices across the organization, ensuring high-quality, scalable data products.
• Own and continuously develop data engineering guidelines, standards, and technology choices (including Snowflake and dbt).
• Act as a hands-on expert, supporting teams with practical implementation and problem-solving.
• Coach and mentor data engineers, strengthening capabilities and ways of working.
• Collaborate closely with internal and external data engineers to drive consistency and best practices.
• Work cross-functionally with platform teams, governance, and business stakeholders to align on data needs and solutions.
• Coordinate and communicate effectively with key stakeholders across the organization.
• Contribute actively to UPM’s data governance initiatives and support the adoption of governance frameworks.
