Job summary

Wärtsilä Corporation in Vaasa, Finland, is seeking a Chief test engineer or Test engineer to join the Large Bore engines Test & Validation team. You will contribute to engine development and decarbonisation efforts, working at the front end of Wärtsilä’s technology development.

The role focuses on maintaining engines, planning tests on various engines, analyzing results, and developing test methods. Requires mechanical engineering degree and 4-stroke engine knowledge, with strong communication

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering.
• Experience with 4-stroke engine technology is preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret system diagrams and mechanical drawings.
• Strong communication and documentation skills are essential.
• English required; Finnish or Swedish knowledge is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, develop and upgrade test engines and associated systems.
• Plan, organize and execute engine component and system tests on laboratory, production, and field engines and test rigs.

Chief test engineer or Test engineer

We are looking for a Chief test engineer or Test engineer to work with engines in R&D and Engineering, Large Bore engines, Test and Validation team. The location for this position is Vaasa, Finland.

In above mentioned position, you will be working in Test and Validation team at the front end of Wärtsilä’s engine and technology development. We are offering you a possibility to participate in the development of future engine technologies and to contribute to the accelerating realization of decarbonization objectives as a part of a skilled engine test team.

As a Test Engineer, you will focus on the following responsibilities:

• Maintenance, development and upgrading of test engines
• Planning, organising and executing engine components and system related test activities on laboratory engines, production engines and sometimes field engines and test rigs
• Taking care about test components ordering and test related arrangement on the engine and in the test cells and participating to engine test runs and needed preparations
• Analysing and reporting of test results
• Verification of correct and properly saved measurement data
• Updating and developing test methods and test facilitiesUsage and development of different control and measurement programs
• Supporting different activities in engine and technology testing

In this case, candidates with a few years experience with 4-stroke engines or test laboratory environments will be noticed.

In addition, in case of Chief test engineer position, the applicant should meet the requirements through their 4-stroke engine expertise, technical capabilities, experience, project and team leadership skills, and ability to build networks and work consistently with complex stakeholders. Additionally:

• Drives the designs, plans and documentation for technical solutions or testing activities as a key contributor
• Being able to support complex projects and mentor others with in-depth technical guidance
• Drives specific R&D activities and outcomes, integrating innovative solutions and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
• Plans and leads small projects or work groups and coordinates team activities
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing technical support for decision-making

In both cases, you’ll be working as a part of dynamic and competent Large Bore Engines Test and Validation team with diverse expertise.

Requirements for the position:

• Relevant technical education (BSc or MSc) from mechanical engineering area
• Basic or advanced knowledge of 4-stroke engine technology
• Ability to read and interpret system schemas and mechanical drawings
• Machinery engineering skills and practical abilities, such as repair and/or maintenance activities and experience in a power plant environment, as well as testing functions for large or technically demanding equipment, are considered advantageous as well as deeper knowledge and experience of 4-stroke engine technology
• High interest in 4-stroke engine technologies

Qualifications/to be able to succeed in the position we expect you to have:

• Skills and previous experiences in working with large bore engines are an advantage
• Good skills in communication and documentation
• Good team working skills, as well as ability to work independently
• Good command of English and Finnish or Swedish
