Job summary

Enko Group seeks a Camera Optical Design Engineer to create high-performance optical systems for compact smartphone camera modules. You will drive design from concept to prototype, collaborating across optomechanical, electrical, and algorithm teams.

You will optimize MTF, tolerances, and desensitization, translate design into manufacturable solutions, and analyze metrology results to guide iterations. This is a hands-on, globally collaborating role in Tampere, Finland.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Electrical/Optical Engineering or Physics.
• Hands-on lens design experience for consumer imaging products.
• Proficiency with lens design and ray tracing tools (Zemax, CodeV).
• DFM experience for high-volume production preferable.
• Experience with AF/OIS lens design optimization.
• Knowledge of lens-sensor integration constraints.

Enko Group is recruiting a Camera Optical Design Engineer for our client, a leading global technology company with an R&D center in Tampere, Finland.

In this role, you will design and deliver high-performance optical systems for compact camera modules - from early concept to a functional prototype- working closely with optomechanical, electrical, and algorithms specialists.

Job Description

• Design optical systems for miniaturized camera modules targeting flagship smartphone performance requirements

• Execute optical performance analysis including MTF optimization, tolerance analysis, and desensitization

• Translate optical designs into manufacturable solutions in close collaboration with globally distributed, multidisciplinary partner teams

• Analyze metrology reports and drive corrective design actions based on measurement results

• Research emerging optical technologies and assess their applicability to next-generation camera module designs

Qualifications & Skills Requirement

• MSc or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or other relevant field

• Hands-on experience with lens design for Consumer Electronics imaging products, preferably with smartphones

• Proficiency with lens design and ray tracing tools (e.g., Ansys Zemax OpticStudio, CodeV)

• Design for Manufacturing (DFM) experience for high-volume production preferable

• Experienced with Lens Design Optimization for AF/OIS actuators

• Working knowledge of lens-sensor integration constraints (CRA matching to sensor micro-lens array, BFL/FFL, packaging envelope)

• Experienced with miniaturization techniques applied to imaging optics (e.g., folded optics, periscope architectures)

• Proficiency in simulation and optimization techniques (e.g., desensitization, tolerancing, stray light analysis)

• Proven adaptability in dynamic business conditions - self-driven, self-directed, and proactive in taking initiative and ownership with minimal supervision

• Strong documentation discipline - ability to produce unambiguous technical reports, specification documents, and design review materials with minimal supervision

• Effective communication skills at both engineering and executive levels

• Ability to cooperate and work effectively in distributed team settings across time zones and organizational boundaries

Nice to have Skills:

• Hands-on experience with optical metrology tools (MTF bench, interferometer, wavefront sensor)

• Understanding of computational imaging principles and co-design of optics with ISP/post-processing pipelines

The position is based on-site in Tampere, Finland.

This is a full-time consultant position. You will be employed by Enko Group and work as a consultant for our client.
