Job summary

Sasken Finland Oy in Tampere is seeking an experienced BSP / Embedded Software Engineer to join our software development team. You will bring up new ARM-based embedded platforms, develop Linux BSPs, integrate drivers, and ensure production-ready software for modem integration and other embedded projects.

Sasken Finland Oy serves domestic and global customers in design and development of hardware and software products and provides services for industries such as Telecommunication, Industrials and Defence and Satcom. Sasken Finland has a strong track record of successfully delivering R&D product programs with high-end expertise in wireless and embedded system technologies.

We are looking for a BSP / Embedded SW Engineer to join our SW development team to support modem integration project and other embedded projects. Our team is in the Tampere office where we are working in hybrid mode.

The Role

As a BSP / Embedded Engineer, you will be responsible for bringing up new hardware platforms, developing and maintaining Linux BSPs, integrating low-level drivers and peripherals, supporting hardware validation, and enabling seamless integration between platform, modem, and application software. You will work closely with hardware, modem, and system teams to debug complex issues, optimize platform performance, and ensure production-ready software for next-generation non-terrestrial communication systems.

We are looking for a proactive and collaborative engineer with strong analytical and problem-solving skills who enjoys tackling complex system-level challenges across hardware, kernel, and application layers .The ideal candidate can communicate technical concepts clearly to both customers and internal stakeholders, working effectively with cross-functional teams to drive issues to resolution. They are comfortable in fast-paced, multi-project environments, take ownership of their work, and continuously seek opportunities to learn and expand their expertise in new technologies and system domains.

Key responsibilities

• Hardware bring-up activities for new ARM-based embedded platforms, including board initialization, bootloader configuration, BSP enablement, and early system validation.
• Develop, customize, and maintain Linux Board Support Packages (BSPs), leveraging Yocto , drivers and related build frameworks to deliver production-readysoftware.
• Integrate, configure, and debug low-level software components including bootloaders, Linux kernel subsystems, device drivers, and peripheral interfaces.
• Collaborate closely with hardware, modem, and system engineering teams to diagnose and resolve complex issues spanning hardware, kernel, middleware, and application layers.
• Support platform validation and verification activities, including performance analysis, stability testing, power optimization, and root-cause investigation of system-level issues.

Technical Skills

• Strong embedded (Linux) development experience
• Solid C/C++ programming
• Hardware bring-up
• Linux kernel fundamentals and debugging
• Device driver integration and debugging in ARM based embedded systems
• ARM based hardware-software integration experience
• Linux command line and debugging tools
• Git-based development workflows
• Some HW interfaces like Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, GNSS or sensor interfaces
• CI/CD for embedded systems

Nice to Have

• 3GPP protocol layers (L1, L2 & L3) knowledge
• Secure OTA update concepts
• Experience or interested to work also in Zeprhyr / FreeRTOS environments
• RISC-V experience

Education and Experience Required

B.Sc. or M.Sc. in relevant field (Embedded Systems, Electronics, Software Engineering, etc.)

Minimum:
