Job summary

UPM-Kymmene Oyj Global Functions seeks an IT Architect specialized in cloud and database technologies. You will help transform UPM’s on-premises databases toward public cloud and autonomous services, balancing security, scalability, and cost across global applications.

You will collaborate with the Hybrid Cloud Computing team to shape roadmaps, oversee architecture reviews, and guide stakeholders through technology decisions.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of database technologies (Oracle, SQL Server) and their role in critical applications.
• Solid knowledge of public cloud concepts, cloud migration approaches, and cloud-native design principles.
• Experience or interest in autonomous database services and managed database platforms.
• Ability to translate business requirements into practical architecture options and roadmaps.
• Familiarity with project management and Agile methodologies.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Take architectural responsibility for cloud and database solutions and related applications, security, performance, and lifecycle considerations.
• Support the transformation of on-premises database environments toward public cloud and autonomous database services.
• Contribute to cloud migration planning, database modernization, architecture reviews, and technical decision-making with application teams and suppliers.
• Collaborate with the Hybrid Cloud Computing Chief Architect to support roadmap development and long-term technology direction.
• Act as a key stakeholder for IT Service Owners and Product Owners in BUILD, focusing on database and cloud infrastructure solutions.
• Align business roadmaps with database and cloud technology roadmaps, including capacity, lifecycle, security, and cost considerations.
• Identify opportunities to modernize database services through cloud-native capabilities and managed services.
• Provide consultancy for IT Service Owners and Business Services to support database, cloud infrastructure, and migration needs.

We are now looking for an IT Architect, Hybrid Cloud Computing, to join our team at UPM IT Infrastructure and Site Services, Hybrid Cloud Computing. This role is based in Tampere or Helsinki, Finland, as part of our global IT organization, which is responsible for IT applications, infrastructure, and IT operations worldwide.

What you will do

As an IT Architect specializing in cloud and database technologies, you will play a key role in transforming UPM’s on-premises database landscape towards public cloud and autonomous database services. You will combine strong database architecture expertise with good cloud infrastructure knowledge to design secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-conscious database solutions that support UPM’s business applications and processes.

• Taking architectural responsibility for cloud and database solutions, including related applications, integrations, dependencies, security, performance, availability, and lifecycle considerations
• Supporting the transformation of on-premises database environments towards public cloud and autonomous database services
• Contributing to cloud migration planning, database modernization, architecture reviews, and technical decision-making together with application teams and suppliers
• Working closely with the Hybrid Cloud Computing Chief Architect to support roadmap development, architecture alignment, and long-term technology direction
• Acting as a key stakeholder for IT Service Owners and Product Owners in BUILD, with a focus on database and cloud infrastructure solutions
• Aligning business roadmaps with database and cloud technology roadmaps, including capacity, lifecycle, security, compliance, and cost considerations
• Identifying opportunities to modernize database services through cloud-native capabilities, automation, standardization, and managed or autonomous database services
• Providing consultancy for IT Service Owners and Business Services to support business demands related to databases, cloud infrastructure, and migration initiatives

Who you are

• You have strong understanding of database technologies, such as Oracle and SQL Server, and their role in business-critical application landscapes
• You have good knowledge of cloud infrastructure concepts, public cloud services, cloud migration approaches, and cloud-based architecture principles
• You have experience or strong interest in autonomous database services, managed database platforms, and cloud-native database modernization
• You understand database platform management, performance optimization, security, compliance, lifecycle management, backup, recovery, and IT service processes
• You have ability to translate business and application requirements into practical architecture options and technical roadmaps
• You are familiar with project management and agile methodology skills
• You have excellent communication, stakeholder management, and coordination skills
• You have proactive, accountable, and solution-oriented working approach
