Position Available: Primates/Apes/Small Mammals Zookeeper

The Toledo Zoo is currently seeking a Primates/Apes/Small Mammals Zookeeper. This position is responsible for performing duties related to animal husbandry and exhibit maintenance for the small mammal/apes & primates department. Working knowledge of various species, with an emphasis on primates, but also including hoof stock, otters, and marsupials. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires forty hours per scheduled work week.

  • Maintaining high standards of animal care through diet preparation, animal observation, record maintenance, and cleaning of animal and public areas.
  • Participating in guest engagement activities, including talks and tours.
  • Supporting and implementing department policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure the highest standards of collection care and safety of staff and visitors.
  • Participating in collaborative efforts related to collection care, including training, enrichment, research, and education.
  • Willingness to be trained in all departmental areas and work with a variety of animal species.
  • Overseeing activities of interns and volunteers.
  • Maintaining a positive attitude and collaborating effectively with team members.

Minimum Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology/Zoology or related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Primate experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Zoo’s fleet insurance.
  • The Toledo Zoo is a drug-free workplace, including marijuana.

Compensation: $17.67 per hour
