About the Role :

We seek a Vice President of Product Design to lead our Barcelona office’s Product Design team. This close-knit team executes design strategies across significant parts of Dow Jones’s core product portfolio, including B2B and B2C brands like The Wall Street Journal and Factiva. This pivotal role will be a key member of our Design & Research Leadership team, setting the tone and fostering a collaborative, open culture aligned with our NYC design leadership.

You will be a proven, inspirational leader who elevates design standards while empowering your team. You should be empathetic, pragmatic, and skilled at influencing stakeholders across product, technology, marketing, and editorial teams, guiding them toward alignment across time zones.

The VP of Product Design reports to the SVP of Design & Research at Dow Jones.

You Will :

  1. Lead by example, embodying a passion for all forms of design and a commitment to learning and growth.
  2. Set and own a vision and strategy for Product Design in Barcelona, aligned with global standards and business goals, and communicate these effectively to leadership worldwide.
  3. Oversee design processes for all products and services, ensuring high standards of usability, effectiveness, and visual appeal across B2B and B2C offerings.
  4. Advocate for the growth and development of your team, establishing internal and external development initiatives.
  5. Build meaningful collaborations with Editorial, Technology, Product Management, and Marketing teams, challenging the status quo to advance products.
  6. Understand and drive consistency in marketing and brand differentiation across platforms, balancing coherence with strategic deviations.
  7. Stay current with the latest design trends and technologies, sharing knowledge to enhance our understanding of the evolving business environment.
  8. Serve as an advocate for users, ensuring their needs remain central to our customer experience.

You Have :

  • 15+ years of experience in product design, contributing to consumer or B2B products, preferably both.
  • Experience managing managers and influencing senior contributors, with a track record of establishing design strategies.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with subscription-based and ad-supported products.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating successful product contributions and thoughtful analysis of less successful projects.
  • Leadership skills to balance strategic and tactical priorities, managing resources effectively.
  • Expertise in mobile, web, responsive design, UI, HCI, Accessibility, and UX principles.
  • Proficiency with component-based design, Design Systems, Figma, and other tools like ProtoPie.
  • Strong skills with G-suite, Jira, Miro, Confluence, Airtable, and experience working in hybrid environments.
  • Experience designing for News or Financial Services sectors.
  • Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards and compliance requirements globally.
