A leading technology start-up in Spain is seeking a VP of Engineering to lead its distributed team. In this hands-on role, you will define delivery processes, work closely with the CEO, and prepare the organization for its upcoming Series A funding. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in distributed systems and the ability to foster a high-performing engineering culture. This is a remote-first position, allowing you to work from anywhere within the UK, Ireland, or Spain.

Job Title : VP of Engineering

Location : UK, Ireland, or Spain (Remote)

Company overview :

An early stage SaaS Start up, specialising in building the next generation of developer runtime context tooling; combining AI, distributed systems, and graph-based insights to help engineers better understand and debug their software in real time.

Role :

As VP of Engineering, you'll lead and scale our distributed engineering team from 9 to 20+ over the next 12 months. This is a hands-on leadership role where your expertise in distributed systems, AI infrastructure, and team building will be critical. You'll help architect the platform, grow the team, and prepare the org for the company's upcoming Series A in early 2026.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and scale a high-performing, remote-first engineering team across Europe.
• Define and implement modern delivery processes that balance speed with quality.
• Work closely with the CEO on strategy, hiring, roadmap planning, and resourcing.
• Own technical architecture decisions and participate in hands-on prototyping and reviews.
• Foster a strong engineering culture focused on learning, ownership, and impact.
• Collaborate closely with Product to ship reliable, high-quality features quickly.
• Prepare the team and platform for scale as we move toward enterprise customers and a US go-to-market strategy.

What You Bring

Proven experience growing and leading engineering teams from early-stage to scale.

Deep understanding of distributed systems (e.g., Kubernetes, ECS, Nomad, Docker Swarm, OpenShift) and AI / ML-powered platforms.

Strong technical background, comfortable reviewing architecture and jumping into code when needed (Kotlin, JavaScript).

Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth start-ups with distributed teams.

Exceptional communication and leadership skills; a true people-first mindset.

Background in building developer tools or infrastructure platforms is a big plus.

Comfortable wearing multiple hats - strategic thinking, tactical execution, team building.
