The Research Assistant position is hosted by the Centre d’Estudis Demogràfics (CED) in Barcelona and funded to support the Health and Aging group. The role focuses on analyzing cross-national secondary data and literature reviews to advance aging research.
The candidate should be enrolled in a Master program in Sociology, Demography, or related field, with strong English skills and experience with Stata or R. The work is part-time and permanent, around 20 hours per week.
We’re looking for a graduate student to join as a Research Assistant (RA) in the Health and Aging group, hosted by the Centre d’Estudis Demogràfics (CED).
The Health and Ageing group aims to produce scientific knowledge that sheds light on the challenges associated with increasing longevity around the globe. The main research aims of the group include (i) Study of the compression vs expansion of morbidity debate, (ii) Study of health inequalities (e.g., across socioeconomic status or migrant groups), (iii) Elderly care, and (iv) Causes of death and social determinants of health.
The RA will support various research activities related to the project and will work in collaboration with the Principal Investigator. Main responsibilities include:
Preparing and analysing cross-national, large-scale secondary data
Assisting with literature review
Supporting other research activities related to the Health and Aging group
Completed or currently enrolled in a Master program in Sociology, Demography, Political Science, Economics, or a related field
Ability to conduct quantitative analysis using Stata and/or R
Excellent communication skills in English
Desirable (not required, but highly valued):
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and/or Catalan.
Previous experience working as a Research Assistant.
Previous experience working with cross-sectional data from censuses and household surveys.
Contract type: Permanent part-time contract (approximately 20 hours per week) for scientific and technical activities linked to the funding awarded to the Health and Aging group.
Salary: The annual gross salary will around €12,000, depending on the number of weekly working hours.
Duration: The position is funded until the completion of the allocated project fund (approximately 12 months)
Workplace: The position will be based at the Centre for Demographic Studies (Centre d’Estudis Demogràfics), located on the campus of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
