The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is a comprehensive cancer research center dedicated to conducting research and driving innovation in the epidemiological, preventive, clinical, translational, and basic aspects of leukaemia and other hematologic malignancies, with the ultimate goal of finding a cure for these diseases. Established in 2010, it has experienced exponential growth.

Accreditations and Collaborations

The IJC is part of the network of Excellence Research Centers of Catalonia (CERCA) and was accredited as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities in 2024. Since 2018, it has also been accredited by the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (FCAECC). Additionally, IJC is integrated into the Institut de Recerca Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) as an Accredited Health Research Institute (IIS) by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII).

Location and Facilities

The main headquarters is located within the Can Ruti Biomedical Campus, alongside other leading biomedical institutions, providing access to state-of-the-art scientific and technological facilities. The IJC has six locations integrated into reference hospitals: Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, Hospital Clínic, Hospital Sant Pau, Hospital Josep Trueta, Hospital del Mar, and Hospital San Joan de Déu, facilitating close collaboration between basic and clinical researchers for translational research.

Position: Managing Director

We are seeking a MANAGING DIRECTOR for our institute.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Direct the administrative organization of the Institute.
  2. Oversee economic and accounting management, manage funds from other institutions or agencies, prepare annual accounts, and handle administrative tasks, documentation processing, and administrative reporting.
  3. Execute work contracts and service and supply contracts delegated by the Board of Trustees.
  4. Manage human resources, including staff hiring, incidents, termination of employment, scholarships, and grants, in accordance with the guidelines set by the Board of Trustees.
  5. Provide administrative support for meetings of the Board of Trustees and other IJC bodies.
  6. Ensure the proper condition and functioning of the IJC's assets, monitor inventory, and execute treasury operations.
  7. Approve internal operational rules of the institute jointly with the Director and in agreement with the Board of Trustees.
  8. Support the IJC Director in developing strategic networks and collaborations at local, national, and international levels.
  9. Maintain regular meetings with the Josep Carreras International Foundation.
  10. Leverage institutional strengths within CERCA, REGIC, and SOMMA networks.
  11. Guarantee integrity, transparency, and legal compliance.
  12. Represent the IJC legally.
  13. Promote and transmit the core values of the IJC, including ethics, interdisciplinarity, equality, diversity, creativity, perseverance, and sustainability.
  14. Participate in periodic evaluations by CERCA, AECC, and other bodies.
  15. Perform other functions as approved by the Board of Trustees.
Profile of the Ideal Candidate
  • Strong background in Business Management; postgraduate, PhD, or Master’s in sciences valued.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an administrative director in research institutions; 5+ years preferred.
  • Knowledge of the public research sector.
  • Leadership skills, ethical standards, honesty, transparency, valuing diversity and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication skills for managing a multicampus institute.
  • Ability to manage professional teams and complex environments.
  • Strategic vision and institutional awareness.
  • Ability to motivate teams.
  • Knowledge of the Spanish and Catalan scientific, health, and university systems.
  • High proficiency in English; Catalan and Spanish skills.
  • Immediate availability is a plus.
