Descripción del empleo

What's Barkibu?

Hey there! Barkibu is a tech company designed to ensure dogs and cats receive the medical care they need without the worry of high expenses. We dream of a world where every pet can access top-tier healthcare without financial barriers. We're committed to supporting pets and their owners for a joyful and thriving life together.

We’re a team of pet lovers from Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Croatia, Russia, Morocco, Argentina, Brazil, Romania, Italy, Poland, and Portugal. We are now looking for a Software Engineer with an analytical mindset to help scale our engineering systems and infrastructure as we grow internationally.

Our presence spans 7 countries: Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Finland. Join us and be part of our exciting journey!

As a Software Engineer...

You'll be part of our Claims team, responsible for the full development lifecycle of the reimbursement claims decision-making process for our clients. This includes analyzing veterinary documents and invoices, and implementing automated validation systems to determine coverage eligibility.

This claims process handles over €50 million annually in reimbursements, with an opportunity to save €2 million for the company, making this a high-impact role.

The Claims team aims to automate pet health insurance claims processing—one of our most critical challenges. When pet parents visit the vet, they request reimbursement via our app by uploading documents such as invoices, veterinary reports, and sometimes medical history. Our system analyzes these documents to make accurate coverage decisions, handling complex scenarios like:

  • Pre-existing conditions not covered by our policy
  • Waiting periods for specific treatments or procedures
  • Line-by-line invoice evaluation according to policy terms

You will work on cutting-edge solutions using OCR to extract text from documents, LLMs to interpret medical language, and business rules to apply policy conditions. Your contributions will help to:

  • Minimize claim resolution times
  • Automate validation of coverage conditions
  • Improve user experience and transparency
  • Detect potential fraud or inconsistencies
  • Support our veterinary team with AI-assisted decision-making

We are also building a massive database of structured clinical data that opens new possibilities for future innovations.

We seek someone curious, interested in working across frameworks and languages, and eager to help build the future of pet insurance with data, intelligence, and empathy.

At Barkibu, a Software Engineer does much more than code. You will:

  • Be a Business Analyst, breaking down user needs and product requirements
  • Lead initiatives as a Project Manager, managing execution from start to finish
  • Ensure high-quality releases as a QA Specialist
  • Deploy and maintain infrastructure as a DevOps engineer

You are the perfect fit if...

  • You have experience working on complex challenges like this
  • You are fluent in English; Spanish is a plus
  • You have a product mindset and experience iterating on consumer products focused on growth
  • You are comfortable owning initiatives, pushing scope reduction, and shipping frequently
  • You thrive in fast-paced environments and manage tasks efficiently
  • You collaborate seamlessly across teams
What do we offer?
  • Competitive salary based on skills and experience
  • Permanent contract (40h/week)
  • Remote work from anywhere in Spain
  • Great work-life balance
  • Support for learning with time and €1,000/year for growth
  • Time off when needed, 23 days of annual leave
  • Free online English classes
  • Subsidized private health insurance
  • Monthly aid for gym, physiotherapy, and therapy
  • Tax-free benefits: restaurant, kindergarten, and transportation credits
  • Pet insurance coverage for your dogs and cats
  • Referral bonus program

Start date: ASAP

We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
