Offer Description

We are offering an exciting position as Communication Manager at the University of Barcelona, to lead and support strategic communication efforts for European research projects within the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine lab ( www.bcn-aim.org ). This role is key in enhancing the visibility, impact, and outreach of the lab’s cutting-edge research, by translating complex scientific findings into accessible, engaging content for diverse audiences including clinicians, policymakers, patients, media, and the general public.

The Communication Officer will act as a bridge between the scientific team and external stakeholders, supporting dissemination, engagement, and knowledge transfer strategies aligned with EU project goals and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Translate complex AI and medical concepts into clear messaging. Facilitate communication among engineers, clinicians, consortium partners, and broader audiences across Europe.
• Scientific Dissemination & Visibility: Draft content for high-impact scientific publications, press releases, newsletters, and blog posts. Manage relationships with media outlets and oversee the lab’s presence on relevant communication channels.
• Patient & Public Engagement: Design communication materials for non-expert audiences, ensuring accessibility and transparency. Organize public engagement activities (talks, workshops, events) and promote ethical discussion around the use of AI in healthcare.
• Knowledge Transfer & Implementation Support: Collaborate with project leaders to develop communication materials such as white papers, policy briefs, case studies, and brochures. Support the communication strategy of spin-offs and promote adoption by clinical or industry partners.
• Monitoring & Impact Assessment: Track dissemination KPIs (e.g., citations, media coverage, stakeholder feedback). Use data insights to refine strategies and ensure compliance with EU dissemination and communication requirements.

Writing, Editing & Multilingual Support: Produce compelling written content in English and Spanish; support the adaptation of materials for international audiences. Assist in reviewing and editing research-related documentation, presentations, and reports.

The requirements for the position are:

• Master’s degree in communication, journalism, cultural mediation, or a related field
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
• Experience in translating technical/scientific content into public-friendly formats
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines
• Strong interpersonal and organisational skills; ability to work independently and in a team
• Experience with communication in EU-funded research projects or similar settings is highly valued
• Familiarity with digital tools, social media management, and graphic/visual communication is a plus
• Experience with administrative tasks in projects

The research projects:

You will join our AI for cardiology team, as part of ongoing projects such as AI4HF ( https://www.ai4hf.com/ ) and DataTools4Heart ( https://www.datatools4heart.eu/ ), funded by the European Commission and some coordinated by our lab. In these projects, we are developing new trustworthy AI solutions for personalised medicine approach to tailor the care models in the field of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, we are interested in new AI solutions for risk assessment and patient management. The project will build on a unique set of big data repositories, real-world hospital data, trustworthy AI methods, computational tools and clinical results from major EU-funded projects in cardiology leveraging federated learning. Should you join our team, you will collaborate with several technical and clinical partners within andoutside Europe (e.g. in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Greece, Spain, Belgium, France, Germany, Portugal, Peru, Tanzania, Czechia, Turkey).

The Group:

The successful candidate will join the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Lab ( www.bcn-aim.org ), which is an integral part of the University of Barcelona’s Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. It is a young and dynamic research lab, highly active in international projects, and composed of >20 enthusiastic academics, researchers, students and research managers, with expertise in data science, machine/deep learning, biomedical informatics, biomedical ethics, and health-related applications. The research team has an established track record in coordination and participation in national, European and international projects in biomedical data science and medical AI (e.g. EuCanImage, LongITools, HealthyCloud, RadioVal, DataTools4Heart, Youth-GEMs, HappyMums, AIMIX, AI4HF, YOUTHreach).

The Institution:

Gross salary per year: 40.488,04 €.

Eligibility criteria

The selection is made through theevaluation of the curriculum, with an overall score of zero (0) to ten (10) points. The minimum score is five (5) points. The evaluation criteria are the following:

- Suitability of the candidate to the main function to be carried out

- Curricular experience

- Professional knowledge and skills

The tribunal, in its constitutive session, assesses the CVs of the candidates presented.

Selection process

A resolution of adjudication is issued to the person who, having passed the selection procedure, obtains the highest score and publishes the prioritised list of applicants who have passed the selection process, indicating the scores obtained, for subsequent recruitment, if necessary.

The candidate proposed for hiring must accept the job offer within 5 working days from the date of notification of the selection.
