Technician for the Priority Research Area of Bioinformatics and Bioimaging at IRIS-CC

IRIS-CC is a private foundation that governs, manages, and directs the Institute for Research and Innovation in Life and Health Sciences in Central Catalonia. It is the result of a strategic alliance between 17 academic, healthcare, and social institutions in Central Catalonia and its area of influence.

The mission of IRIS-CC is to generate scientific knowledge in life and health sciences, oriented towards the needs and improvement of people's quality of life; as well as to create an innovative ecosystem that fosters territorial development and provides the products and services demanded by society.

In August 2024, the Institute for Research and Innovation in Life and Health Sciences in Central Catalonia (IRIS-CC) received the “HR Excellence in Research” award from the European Commission. The “Human Resources Strategy for Researchers” is based on the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The implementation of HRS4R is a quality seal that demonstrates that the HR policy of a research center complies with European standards.

Position: PART-TIME – Technician for the Priority Research Area of Bioinformatics and Bioimaging at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Life and Health Sciences in Central Catalonia (IRIS-CC).

We are looking for an expert with a proven track record in the field of Bioinformatics and Computing Center Management.

In addition to the technical competencies required to join the expert team at IRIS-CC, it is essential to contribute a set of valuable transversal skills, such as: proactivity, versatility, communication skills, high level of commitment and confidentiality, problem-solving ability, service-oriented mindset, organizational and management skills, and emotional intelligence, among others.

Reporting to: Functionally to the Coordinator of the Priority Research Area of Bioinformatics and Bioimaging at IRIS-CC. Organizationally to the Scientific Director of IRIS-CC.

The selected candidate will report to the area manager and join the Laboratory of Computational Biochemistry and Biophysics (CBBL), which is part of the Research Group in Bioinformatics and Bioimaging at UVic-UCC, affiliated with IRIS-CC.

Main responsibilities:

• Development of work pipelines for multi-omics data analysis.

Support in the management of the UVic-UCC computing center, in user support, job queue management, HPC training, and scientific software management.

Requirements:

• MSc in Bioinformatics.
• Pre-enrollment or enrollment in the PhD Program in Bioinformatics at UVic-UCC by the closing date of this call.
• Proficiency in standard bioinformatics programming tools, especially R and Python.
• Advanced level of Catalan, Spanish, and English.
• Previous experience in similar roles.
• Stays in international research centers.
• Scientific publications.
• Participation in research projects in life and health sciences.
