We are seeking an experienced WordPress Tech Lead with a strong back-end focus and a proven track record in designing scalable architecture, building custom plugins, and leading enterprise-level WordPress implementations.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in platform architecture and a strong interest in headless WordPress implementations, as well as proficiency with GraphQL and REST APIs.

We need an independent problem-solver who is also a collaborative leader, capable of making informed technical decisions and effectively representing engineering perspectives in cross-functional discussions.

As part of our digital transformation, our client is migrating multiple brands to WordPress, and this role will be vital in enhancing the platform post-launch.

Requirements

1. 7+ years of experience in WordPress and PHP, backed by a strong portfolio of complex and large-scale projects
2. Proven experience designing scalable, fault-tolerant back-end systems within WordPress, including developing custom plugins and services that support high-traffic applications
3. Deep understanding of RESTful APIs and familiarity with GraphQL APIs
4. Experience implementing headless or decoupled WordPress architectures
5. Prior experience supporting high-traffic enterprise websites
6. Strong debugging skills, performance optimization, and proficiency in local development workflows
7. Hands-on experience with testing frameworks in WordPress, such as PHPUnit
8. Experience with version control systems such as Git and GitHub
9. Comfortable working in fast-paced, product-driven environments with rapidly changing priorities and evolving requirements
10. Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to clients and team members
11. At least Upper-Intermediate English level
12. Be able to align with US Eastern Time (EST)

Nice To Have Skills

1. Hands-on experience with WordPress VIP hosting infrastructure
2. Skilled in managing and developing WordPress multisite setups
3. Proven experience implementing modern CI / CD pipelines and deployment workflows
4. Exposure to AWS cloud services and contemporary infrastructure tools
5. Active contributions to the WordPress community through open-source projects and industry events
6. Experience working in the digital media and publishing sectors
7. Familiar with front-end frameworks such as React, Next.js, and TypeScript

1. Take ownership of the technical vision for the client’s WordPress platform, overseeing the development and rollout of new features in partnership with internal teams and external collaborators.
2. Design and evolve the platform’s architecture and back-end infrastructure to ensure stability, scalability, and adaptability.
3. Uphold high coding standards focusing on performance, security, and scalability best practices.
4. Collaborate with designers, front-end developers, and product managers to plan, prioritize, and execute development initiatives.
5. Mentor internal engineers, fostering growth in WordPress expertise.
6. Define and shape technical strategy through design documentation, architectural decisions, and active collaboration.
7. Lead code reviews, oversee documentation, and promote continuous improvement.
8. Ensure high-quality code delivery, resolve technical debt, and promote thorough testing and performance at scale.
