Dow Jones is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in Barcelona to design and build scalable search APIs and semantic systems. You will lead the Search team, drive architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Product and Brand stakeholders to continuously improve search quality.

Formación

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing and scaling search or information retrieval systems; familiarity with embeddings and vector databases.
• Experience implementing RESTful APIs.
• Experience with multi-region, multi-environment systems with CI/CD, high availability and disaster recovery.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Chef) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins).
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
• Demonstrated experience as a technical lead or senior individual contributor.
• Experience collaborating with product managers and brand stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable solutions.
• Comfort adopting AI-assisted development workflows.

Responsabilidades

• Design, build, and operate Search APIs and semantic search systems delivering relevant content to millions of users in real time.
• Lead development of semantic retrieval and ranking pipelines; embedding generation, vector indexing, relevance tuning.
• Act as technical lead for the Search team; drive architecture decisions and technical design documents.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Brand partners to align search goals with engineering initiatives.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and pairing; foster learning culture.
• Champion AI coding agents to accelerate delivery and improve quality.
• Manage infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines; maintain reliability and observability.
• Containerise and deploy services with Docker and Kubernetes; ensure high availability.
• Own SLOs, dashboards, incident response and post-mortems for Search services.
