Dow Jones in Barcelona is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Search team. You will design and build the search APIs, semantic and lexical systems that connect millions of users with the most relevant content across our digital products.

You will serve as a technical lead, setting engineering direction, driving architectural decisions and mentoring engineers. You will partner with Product and Brand stakeholders to continuously improve the search experience for our users.

Formación

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing and scaling search or information retrieval systems.
• Experience implementing RESTful APIs and multi-region deployments.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with containerised deployments using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Proven technical lead or senior individual contributor role.
• Ability to translate business needs into scalable tech solutions.
• Comfort with AI-assisted development workflows.
• Bachelor's degree in CS or related field preferred.

Responsabilidades

• Design, build, and operate Search APIs and semantic search systems.
• Lead semantic retrieval, embedding generation, and ranking pipelines.
• Act as technical lead for the Search team and set engineering standards.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Brand partners on goals and measures.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and pairing.
• Champion AI coding agents to accelerate delivery and quality.
• Manage infrastructure-as-code with Terraform and Chef; maintain CI/CD in Jenkins.
• Containerise and deploy services with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Own reliability and observability; define SLOs and dashboards; handle incidents.
• Drive improvements to processes and developer experience across the team.
