WHSmith in Alicante Airport is seeking an HR leader to oversee end-to-end recruitment for Spain airport operations, ensuring vacancies are filled within service levels and attracting top talent.

The role also leads the Spanish HR team, manages payroll, ensures compliance with employment law, and partners with the UK People Team to align initiatives while driving diversity and an inclusive culture. Fluent English (B2) and Spanish required, with hybrid working.

Formación

  • Qualification in Human Resources or at least 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • HR leadership experience; retail environment is a plus.
  • Experience managing complex employee relations cases and organisational change.
  • Payroll and recruitment experience is essential.
  • Professional command of spoken and written English (B2) and fluent Spanish.

Responsabilidades

  • Manage, coach and develop the Spanish HR team, driving high standards of service delivery and excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with all employment, onboarding and right-to-work requirements.
  • Own the monthly payroll process, ensuring accurate payroll submissions, reconciliations and reporting.
  • Provide guidance on employee relations, including disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance matters.
  • Lead labour relations activity and support collective bargaining with external advisers.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, notifications and reporting, including year-end obligations.
  • Collaborate with the UK People Team to implement central initiatives and alignment with objectives.
  • Drive diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and comply with reporting obligations.
  • Foster an inclusive, high-performance culture aligned with company values.

The Accountabilities of the Role:
  • Oversee end-to-end recruitment for Spain airport operations, ensuring vacancies are filled within agreed service levels and attracting high-calibre talent.

  • Manage, coach and develop the Spanish HR team, driving high standards of service delivery and excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with all employment, onboarding and right-to-work requirements.
  • Ownership of the monthly payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payroll submissions, reconciliations, approvals and statutory reporting.
  • Manage relationships with payroll providers and internal stakeholders to resolve payroll queries and ensure compliance with Spanish tax, social security and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide advice and guidance on employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance and organisational change cases.
  • Lead labour relations activity, support collective bargaining implementation and manage employment tribunal matters in partnership with external legal advisers.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, statutory notifications and reporting requirements, including year-end reporting, social security obligations and audit readiness.
  • Collaborate with the UK People Team to implement central initiatives and ensure alignment with wider organisational objectives.
  • Drive diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, including the delivery of the Equality Plan and compliance with anti-harassment and local reporting obligations.
  • Foster an inclusive, high-performance culture that reflects company values and supports employee engagement and development.
The Requirements of the Role:
  • Qualification in Human Resources or have at least 2+ years’ experience in a similar role/remit.
  • Prior HR leadership experience – retail environment is a plus.
  • Experience managing complex employee relations cases and organisational change.
  • Payroll and recruitment experience is essential.
  • Professional command of spoken and written English is essential (Minimum of B2), fluent in Spanish.
  • The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of Spanish employment law and payroll practices.
  • Experienced working in fast faced, evolving environments.
  • Highly driven and can be flexible to deliver the needs of the business and communicate these needs across teams and departments.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and Excel skills.
  • Highly developed planning and organisation skills.
